I just adopted two cats - both female about 1 year old - two days ago. Since then, they have both been hiding under either my living room sofa or my bed. I want to be patient and realize that it takes time for cats to be comfortable in their new surroundings; but is there any way that I can help get them out of hiding and exploring their new home entirely?
They'll come around! I remember when I was a child and my family moved. We'd had our two cats for years, so they were totally comfortable with US, but not with the new house! They both hid for 2-3 days. One of them stayed under furniture for about a week! We would hear her come out and eat and use the litter box at night. (bless her little heart for coming out to use the bathroom!)After they settled in, they went right back to ruling the household. LOL
A can of stinky tuna might bring them out-- at night when you're asleep and all is very quiet-- but I bet they'll go right back into hiding until they're ready.
Yes, actually I do hear them at night nibbling at the food I leave out and using the litter box. The stinky tuna sounds like a good idea; I'll try that. Otherwise, I will be patient and let them come out on their own accord.
