I have a 4 y/o toy long haired doxie that has had skin problems for several months. It started out on her chest/stomach area with small, round, red crusty sores. I took her to the vet twice before they went away. (I should say they changed the regimen the 2nd time). They reappeared a couple weeks later on her ears and face. She had one inside her mouth, on her ears, inside the ears, and even on her eye. They are just NOT going away. The dr gave her an antibiotic shot on her last visit because she will NOT let me give her liquid clavamox. She also received a steroid shot, some prednisone to bring home, a diflucan prescription, ointment for the eye, another for the ears. AND I'm bathing her in a bacterial shampoo. I've spent about $1000 at the vet in the past few months to no avail. My dog is miserable and I don't blame her. I've even changed her to a dog food that does not contain corn, wheat or soy in hopes this would help. My next move is changing vets. THey did a skin scraping and say this is fungal. And, on her last visit, her bloodwork showed high liver tests. Does anyone have ANY suggestions? Thanks.
Hi I have a mini dachshund with a skin problem, we had the nodules biopsied and the results from Guelph University showed canine Sarcoidosis, very rare and no known cure, prednisone suggested but liver enzymes are high. The sarcoids covering her back now have started crusting over and the scabs fall over to show a reddish pimple and no hair around the area. We have spent over $3000 but with no success and no answers. Wondered if anyone else had a similar diagnosis, would love some input and information to help us with this situation. Our dachshund had to have surgery on her eye as one of the sarcoids had grown inside her eye lid and was cause problems for her eye. We have been satisfied with our vet but now wonder if there is any point trying to figure out what next to do would love to hear from anyone with a doxie like this.
