I am new to this form, and I know dog aggression is a common problem, but I am trying to get as much helpful information as possible.
First let me say we are first time dog owners. We love our pup and he is so good 98 percent of the time.
A couple months ago we noticed that when my sons girlfriend was over, he didnt respond to her well. He growled at her and even lunged at her a couple times when she was bending down to get something from her bag. We didnt think much of it, becasue it was only when she bent down toward her bag. Then he did it to my son, again when he bent down next to him.
A few weeks ago he lightly bit my sons GF. Then he latched onto my nieces pony tail and wouldnt let go...this got us really scared and we decided not to let him around kids.
Well he is getting more agressive. He bit my son last week for no apparent reason. Then the other day he bit him hard, my son is 17. He didnt break skin but left some bad puncture marks...I looked it up and one site called it a level 3 bite.
We feel so bad, because now that we are researching it, we see that it should have been dealt with at the first nip, now he is at the point where one site said he will always be considered a threat.
Cant afford expensive training. Going to the vet in a few days to have him checked out.
We are just so stuck and sad over this. I think it may be in part the fault of where we got him from as a pup, not a great reputation, but I didnt want to leave the cute little thing there.
I just dont know if we can train him effectively to turn this around. My wife is crying over it. I am stuck with a terrible decision whether to keep him. And if we dont??? Who will take him that he wont hurt anyone...I feel so bad even thinking about putting him to sleep, but what if he gets worse and hurts a child??
Poor doggy. He is a Two year Old 65 pound Husky/Border Collie mix that is so handsome. One Blue eye... :(--
