Hi! I'm new to the site and found you guys when googling my problem. I have a gsd/lab mix that's 8 and a American stafford/schnauzer/lab mix that's 1 year old. The young dog is constantly whimpering and wining. I mean constantly! When he's lying down, sleeping, when we're out walking, when he eats - ALL the time!! I've tried ignoring him, tried training or giving him something else to concentrate on. I know this is giving in to his bad behavior but I am soooo frustrated. He has three walks a day one shorter and two longer walks. He eats twice a day and has lots of bones and toys to play with. He gets his needs met but will still not stop wining! I've tried the training tips on the net and spoken to a couple dog trainers. I've gotten the tip to give him a command to distract him but it really doesn't help. Example, out walking I tell him to lie down when he whimpers which is pretty much as soon as we go out ( correction he whimpers constantly) I tell him to lie down while I put the leash on and get ready to go out which usually takes about 30 minutes before he starts to quiet down then we get out the whimpering continues I tell him to lie down and he just gets more and more stressed and whines even louder. I seriously can't take this anymore! Please!! All tips are welcome! I will try them ALL! I am so frustrated :((
I know how frustrating this is. I have a gsd/G. retriever and he whines all the time. He will whine while chewing on a bone, he is whining while I type this. I have read about this and talked to different trainers, I have been told its an anxiety thing or a stress thing. Maybe try that thunder shirt they make for dogs, or talked to your vet about some calming aids they have RX and over the counter. I hope this helps.
