I've made an appointment for Daisy to ger spayed. The appointment is Nov 2 and she will not be 6 months old until Nov 18. Should I wait until she is 6 month or is a couple weeks early ok? Sorry to be so dumb, I just want to do the right thing. Dawn
Nope she'll be fine. Summer was just spayed one week ago today and she was only 5 months and 2 weeks old approximately. I have a male puppy as well, who is 6 months and I did not want them to make any babies! They were both fixed at the same time. You can keep the appointment its not too early =0)
Dawn - I am almost positive that is fine. I know that you want to get females spayed before their first heat cycle as that greatly reduces the possibility to future cancer. Just to be sure, you could ask your vet.
Your dog should be perfectly fine. At our shelter cats get spayed and neutered when they weigh more then 2 pounds and pups are spayed/neutered at 7 weeks and on. Never had one come back for complications. (Knock on wood) so don't worry about your baby! Glad to see you spaying though!
I made an appointment for Ariel to be spayed, they can do it on Nov. 15th. She will be 8 months old then, I know not quite the same, but I've been putting it off a couple of months because I worried since she is so tiny. Less than 4 lbs. Thanks to Acey :) I overcame my paranoia and went ahead and made the appointment. The vet said it was fine, but it was $15.00 more than I paid for Bailey because she is so small. I don't care as long as she is safe! I'm sure everything will be fine, the vet wouldn't do it if she was too little. BTW: Thanks Acey! http://photobucket.com/albums/v497/Ginas67tx/
Agree w/ Cricketmom, but call SEVERAL vets to get an opinion. Just ask for an available vet or technician. Once a lady called me that had it done on a 4 mo. old pup. It bled to death the next day. My vet says she can do it that young...but 6 mos. is the standard time. Why would you rush. Let her body be strong, and yet young enough to heal quickly...it is surgery, you know.
