Was wondering if any of you ever have to put up with relatives calling your dog names?....My brother constantly called my little Puddles..( putty wutty poopkin nutty)...kinda funny now I see it in type...lol...but at the time mad is more like it....now he calls my Dane Max....Maxipad...why couldnt he say Maxamillion or Maximus...anything but that...Iv talked to him...does no good...you all ever put up with that? OOooOO and Max listens to it now...he thinks its his name when bro is around...I told him the next dog I get Im calling duno!...so if anyone ask his name I can say duno....they will think I havent named him yet...Im sure they will figure sooner or later....or not...lol...
my friend calls snowball 'snowbelle'. i have stared calling her this too; she listens to it... and she refers to snoopy as oscar, because that was *almost* his name. but to him she does call him snoopy, snoop dogg, etc...because he's a little slow and needs to only have one name till he gets...smarter.
I think to counter this problem, you should come up with a cute "pet name" for your brother. My brother's name is Jon, but I should call him "Mr. freeloading, lazy, won't walk the dog and eats everything in sight." But for short, I do refer to him as Beavis. EDIT: We did have a poodle growing up named Pebbles, that my dad used to call "dummy dog" Every night he would go outside (before leash law days) and yell "Here Dummy Dog". Everytime she would come running up the street to come in for the night.
Thinking of that children's saying, 'Sticks and stones....' I wouldn't let it get to you. He's probably doing it to get a rise out of you anyway. At least he's not yelling at them and calling them 'stupid' or something. He's doing it in a joking manner, so I wouldn't take it too much to heart.
Its nice to see more dane owners on the board. I would love to see pics. The only thing that annoys me is when people call my dane a horse. I thought it was cute at first but Oscar is almost 3 and they still do it. And when people ask if their kid can sit on him. I just smile and say that hes not for riding. Paige, Just saw your wee little one.....lol......most perfect....he is beautifull....some call Max moose but all in all I guess they mean well....Was wondering how you feel about cropping ears.....why are Oscars not?....Max isnt either....seemed like a lot of pain for him to go through....Im a mush pot so I didnt have it done....Kinda wished I had now because he loves water gets in the poole all the time or in the creek....loves to take baths....only have to ask him once and he flies in the tub.....lol....but anyway..... if his ears stay damp for more than a couple of hours he gets sores.....so is a constant ear treatment of ear powder...but it works great!....dont know if people who show there Danes crop for medical reasons or just because!!
lol, we call our littlest pom, Kenai, but he gets called Little Spaz Dog more often. Or psycho puppy! lol He is just a hair nuerotic! haha not really, he is just eight months old, well, same thing! lol
In response to the REAL topic-my family don't call my pets names. However, my brother in law has said on more than one occasion that it's a good thing I adopted our one cat from a rescue, because she is so ugly, no one else would have adopted her!!!!
KCBC..... We for one couldn't find a vet that did Dane crops in our town. We would have had to travel two hours to do it. Plus I felt uncomfortable putting Oscar through surgery. Danes just don't do well with surgery. I love the floppy eared look too. I do love the cropped eared too. Oscar has never had any problem with his ears, but I do have clean them once a week. And he hates baths, but he only gets maybe 2 a year. He never stinks. I think that is so strange.
i call all my pets by different names too. i think of it more like a term of affection than something mean. scout loves to play with a border terrier at work so when they are playing i always refer to them as either dumb and dumber, or beavis and butthead. your brother is probably just goofing around, it doesn't sound like he is being hurtful.
Honestly ?? There are worse things your brother could do to your dogs !!!! Be lucky that he even shows an interest !!! Like Gina said he is your brother and what are brothers for but to bug the living tar out of ya !! I call my dogs all different names too?? and I love them the point of "Spoiled rotton " Jubilee
Yep...little bro loves Max...this I know.....till I posted....I realy didnt know how funny it is till I saw me gripping....and your right....he could be doing soOOOo much worse to Maxi%*@#....rofl....Ill get over it...lol....like some of you....I hope I dont get into the habit of calling him that....can you just see the neighbors looking at me when I call him....how funny...they would turn me in for animal verble abuse....lol....hummmm
