If you want a pet that is literally bursting with energy, you'll love the Red and White Setter. With tons of energy to burn and a love of the great outdoors, an active family that loves the outdoors will find a kindred spirit in the Red and White Setter. Since the Red and White Setter is best suited for living in the country, you'll have to take extra precautions to make sure your dog is properly stimulated in a more urban environment.
The high-spirited Red and White Setter loves to spend as much time as possible outside and requires a great deal of exercise. Although you could probably get away with housing a Red and White Setter in an apartment, it is not recommended. This breed will thrive in a setting that gives him a lot of open space. Keeping the Red and White Setter cooped up in an apartment all day long will only hurt you in the end. Red and White Setters are extremely resourceful pets, and if they have energy to burn and no room to roam, they'll inevitably turn to other methods to burn energy that are more destructive. Most breeders will suggest country living for Red and White Setters because of the amount of exercise they require each day. An hour's walk or run at the end of the evening won't come close to being enough for this breed, and if you can't provide more than that, then you should seriously reconsider adopting a Red and White Setter.
If you list hunting among your favorite activities, the Red and White Setter is just the pet you've been looking for. It loves spending time outdoors and it doesn't get more outdoorsy than hunting. However, if hunting isn't for you but you'd still like a beautiful Red and White Setter, there are many other activities that you can do outdoors with this breed. A key point to remember about the Red and White Setter is that it loves being part of a big family, so a perfect outing is a family day at the beach. Each member of the family can find a way to be active with your pet. A long walk on the beach, a game of Frisbee, a long swim, or a game of fetch in or out of the water will make your Red and White Setter happier than you could ever imagine. Since this breed is likely to dart off, all activities off the leash should be away from traffic at the very least but preferably in a closed-in area.
Any outdoor activity you choose will please your Red and White Setter because simply basking in the sun and breathing the crisp fresh air will send their tails wagging into overtime! Rigorous daily exercise will keep your Red and White Setter both mentally and physically stimulated.
