Owning a female can be enjoyable as well as rewarding. The female is sometimes moodier than the males, but with proper care and training, even the female can be the best dog in the world. There are a few disadvantages and advantages to owning a female, but the personal choice is going to be up to the potential owner.

Advantages Of Owning A Female

The female Dogue de Bordeaux is easier to train, she is more attentive when training and will try to please her owner and obey commands. The female also does need to mark her territory or chase after other dogs. The female is more subtle and shows affection whenever the mood suits her. It is very rare for the female to need her own domain, therefore, the power struggle for dominance is rarely found in a female. The female has a need to please, pays attention, and does not become distracted by her surroundings.

Disadvantages Of Owning A Female

The female Dogue de Bordeaux can be moody. This is especially true during heat cycles, birthing and puppy care. She can resent visitors and strangers when she is carrying her puppies and taking care of them after birth. This is to be expected and is not a personality trait. It is an instinct for the mother to protect her babies.

When you own a female Dogue and breed her, vet bills and health related issues are going to be a part of your responsibilities. The females that are bred, for the most, need a cesarean during the birth of the puppies. The litters are small, but the puppies are larger than what you think. The mother is then required to nurse her puppies and you have to have complete control over this feeding. A mother can accidentally crush her puppies when trying to feed them.

The only other disadvantage might be spaying. If you have a female and do not breed her, the dog made develop tumors later in life. It is always a good idea to know what you will do as early as possible. In addition, the puppies need to be kept from jumping or climbing stairs as their undeveloped muscular legs can be injured due to their body weight. As their legs develop, they can then support their weight more.

Deciding On A Female Dogue de Bordeaux

Deciding on a female by considering the disadvantages and advantages does not always work out the way you think. Every dog, even if they are female or a male can be trained. The female may have more medical needs than a male, but they are easy to control and train. Whether you decide to breed or not, you can also have them vet checked to see if they should be bred or spayed.

Picking a female Dogue de Bordeaux is rewarding because they are so lovable, but then all puppies are lovable and with the right training, they can be the best dogs to have as a pet.
