The Dogue de Bordeaux can and will get along with other animals and children if they are trained properly and socialized at a young age. If not, they might have some issues with meeting new people or other animals.

The Dogue de Bordeaux And Other Animals

If you have a Dogue and they are the only animal in the house and never allowed around other animals at a young age, you might see some aggressive behavior if they are introduced to new animals when they are older. Often, owners do not worry about having other animals around. If you do not socialize the dog with other animals when they are young, you might see a problem if you bring home another dog or even a cat. You need to start them socializing when they are young and keep up with it as they grow. Getting along with other animals can be forgotten if it is not done regularly.

The Dogue de Bordeaux is loyal and lovable by nature, but if you do not allow them around other animals as they grow, they will become a dominant figure and may resent other animals that enter the home. This is another reason why you need to show them at a young age that you are the leader and not them.

The Dogue de Bordeaux And Children

If you want the Dogue to behave around children of any age, you need to introduce them to children when they are young as well. The Dogue is going to be large and if they are not accustomed to children being around, they can act aggressive towards children as they grow. Some dogs do not do well with crying babies. If they are around all ages as they grow up, it will make things easier for them to live with children and play. Even if the Dogue or any dog is accustomed to children, they still need to be watched, the Dogue more so since they are so large and sometimes innocent play could result in injury.

As you may know, the female Dogue de Bordeaux, may accidentally squash her puppies when nursing, they are so large that they do not intentionally do anything to harm the puppy or a child they are with, it could just be they are playing and pounce as an act of playfulness and this could result in a serious injury.

A Watchful Eye

Even when the Dogue is used to other animals and children, you still need to keep an eye on them. No one ever knows what a dog is thinking at any time. Even the best of dogs could at some time have enough and show signs off aggravation. This is the time to call a time out and let the animals and children rest apart from each other.

You may also find that all your hard work of socializing the Dogue with children and other animals will work against you. If they feel you might hurt anyone or raise your voice, they may become protective and prevent you from getting near the animal or child. After all, they are very loyal and protected of the ones they love.
