The Clumber Spaniel is an amazing pet in that it provides a range of entertainment to your life. You will find that these dogs are great companions. They are willing to cuddle and play with you. They are definitely likely to get into things, but still have that low energy that makes them so easy to appreciate in most family lives. Believe it or not, these dogs used to be hard working dogs, and that is still seen today in some of them.

They Are Loving

As a mild mannered dog, the Clumber Spaniel is a great choice for the low energy family or even the elderly. They are very good with other animals and take well to most people. Their temperament is very positive, without any aggressive tendencies in the breed. If you are looking for a pet that is going to offer a lot of affection and provide some comic charm at the same time, then this may be an ideal breed for you. Take into consideration, though, that they are low key, and do not enjoy a high energy home. They will not do well with a lot of children, nor will they do well if you want them to be guard dogs.

They Are Workers

The Clumber Spaniel was once breed to be the hunter's companion. They would stroll next to their owners throughout hunting trips and explorations. They would help in hunting smaller animals. Although their bodies do not show it, they are very agile and very much capable of helping in the hunt. Today, these dogs are great for the same reasons. They are good for hunters to take along with them. You can also use them in other ways. For example, if you would like a pet to take with you camping and hiking, the Clumber Spaniel will do well. They are laid back, for sure, but they are a sporting breed which means they can keep up with most activities fairly well. They have good stamina on long treks and are not likely to disappoint. In addition, you can count on their intelligence to help you.

The Clumber Spaniel does have a very positive attitude and likes to please its owner. With that said, they do have a very laid back attitude. Often this can be attributed to the Basset Hound that is believed to be part of their ancestry. With that said, do realize that this dog is not lazy by any means. He is willing to do what he needs to do to please you. What's more, they are serious when they are on a mission. It is not unheard of to hear stories of them working at getting refrigerator doors open so that they can help themselves to lunch. Yet, they are obedient in most situations.

As a Clumber Spaniel owner, take the time to work with and train the dog. He's a loyal companion, but he's willing to do the work put in front of him, too. Perhaps this makes him the right combination of dog for you.
