Around my house my husband and boys cannot watch television or a movie without eating popcorn and Fancy our Pekingese loves it to! The bigger dogs eat it but I don't worry about them so much and they don't like it near as much as Fancy. Do you think it can be harmful for dogs? My husband and kids are watching that ridiculous movie "White Chicks" and of course chowing down on popcorn and so is Fancy and it made me wonder. She has never gotten sick from it and she eats it all the time but, well you never know.
I think the problems from popcorn are the same for dogs as they are for humans.. which is the clear kernel shells are concave, and thus they can get stuck on the tooth at the gumline and cause lots of pain. How many of us have gotten one of those little suckers stuck in between our teeth?
Could this be why all of our dogs feet smell like popcorn??? I have never had a problem feeding my dogs popcorn, actually I never thought about those shells getting stuck in their gums before either, I know they love it, but it's hard enough getting it out of my own gums, but they can't tell me one is stuck! I'll think twice before giving them anymore, or maybe just give them the fluffy part.
We give our toys the fluffy parts. The standards like it all. Lily and Kisses, the adult standards love the kernels also. But only give them one at a time. We try to get a light buttered popcorn. I can't imagine that some of the seasoning and gobs of butter are to good for a dog. ltlgto
I usually get Kettlecorn popcorn (MmmmmmMmmm!), or I get no butter. Then I put salt & sugar on it myself! It's gooooooood! ---Allie the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?41063 ---Mönica the Kitty http://www.catster.com/?57596
Ah man Allie, I wish I would have known you liked kettlecorn a few weeks ago. A friend of mine works for a food distributor, so she gave me a whole case of the stuff...I had one bag and shared it with everyone..I think the only ones who even cared for the stuff were my dogs...sorry I couldn't stand it, we threw the whole case out in the trash!
