Mine wear them all the time unless they are getting a bath. Then as soon as they are dry the collars go back on. I'm too paranoid that something might happen, they've not gotten out but you never know.
My girls always have their collers and tags on. I never take them off. I was thinking of taking them off at night but i was getting to worried that there would be an emergancy, like and earthquake or something and i would want to be able to get them on leashes as soon as possible.
Sydney, that sounds like me. I'm always worried something will happen. I'm major paranoid. I know there is a risk of the collars getting caught on something, but imo it's a smaller risk than them getting out somehow.
Tammy always has her collur on all the time, unless its bath time. she will never run away, but we ushualy loose them, because of my nephew playing with them, she has 3 now, becauce we lost them then found them again.
Mine are crated when I'm out of the house anyway...I'm just paranoid about leaving collars on because Lyra got her tags and D ring wedged in the bars of her crate once and was caught there for who knows how long while I was out. Both of mine are also chipped in case they happen to get out without their collars on.
Mine wear collars all the time, although there collars frequently change because whenever I go to petsmart, I can't help but buy another cute collar. I have more fun buying stuff for the dogs than I do myself. Also in the middle of the night, if they are wearing their collar, I can hear them moving around, if they jump of the bed and run to the back door (potty signal) I can hear their tags clicking together.
Neither of my girls wear their collars..although they SHOULD...I just get annoyed at night when they shake their heads and I hear the clinking of their tags. You'd think I woulda learned my lesson when someone had opened up my gate out back and didn't close it..Out Nikko went and didn't come home for a good 6 hours. ChiChi is a scaredy dog..but they are not microchipped..so I NEED to put their collars back on them. Once my Mom was here for a visit and Nikko shook herself with all that clinking and clanking of the tags and Mom came bursting into my room yelling..."somone's breaking into the house..call 911" I said..Mom..it was the dog!
Oscar always wears his collar. It has his rabies and ID tag on it. But it is loose enough to slip over his head easily. Plus when I do take it off he gets all upset and mouthy with me to put it back on. I guess he feels naked without it on.
My dogs rarely wear their collars because of their fur, but I do have harnesses that I put on them when they go outside or when we go somewhere. They don't wear them in the house though. All of mine are such pansies, they don't even like going outside because it is just too cold! At night they are crated in my room, so they do not have collars or harnesses on there either. They do have tags on their harnesses and when we go somewhere new, different town, etc. We make sure they have both harness and collar both with I.D. tags.
Last year..we were traveling to North Carolina and had stopped at a rest area so we could all use the bathroom (dogs too), so we took the dogs on the path...and I saw this lady and little girl crying and yelling for "princess"..they had a collar and leash in their hands and said Princess had gotten off her collar and bolted..I doubt they ever found her..because we stayed there for a good hour trying to help them, along with a few other people. :o(
I don't have dogs yet, but when i get one (spring or early summer) i plan on having a collar on them all the time. sylon you can look for pink studded collars at http://www.morrco.com/ also DoGoneIt, if you want to leave your collar on the dogs all the time you can try these nameplates for your dogs' collars http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=568&N=2001+113046
