I know there were some pet shop posts on here, well I went to one yesterday, they really try to peddle those dogs and prey on the uneducated. There was a couple looking at one of the pups (an English Bulldog) and they asked how much the dog was. The worker said $2500 which is actually a good price, because you can find them in the paper for $3000 or more all the time and you don't get any of the stuff you get here. How stupid does that sound, to be honest I'd probably buy a pup from some byb paper advertising person then a pet shop. But in the paper you see them all the time between $800-1200 on average. Sometimes a little higher and sometimes really cheap. I was just blown away, they will say anything to get you to buy a dog. How do they know what "stuff" you may or may not get with a paper puppy?
I would be interested to see the health problems that this E. Bulldog shows later on in life. E. bulldogs being prone to a multitude of problems both genetically and not inherited, I can only imagine the problems they would be facing with this pet store bulldog.
I went to a pet store near a pub I go to in DE. They had an E. bulldog for sale for $3200. They had a huge sign that read: BULLDOG MAY NOT BE HANDLED DUE TO DISEASES BEING PASSED TO IT. So I am thinking... RIGHT. I asked one of the 16 year old people working there where the bulldog is from, is it a local breeder, do they have a history on the dog yadda yadda yadda. I knew what the answer would be I just wanted to make a point in front of the couple who were talking about buying it.
The girl says, Umm no we don't have that information, the breeder isn't from around here, our parent company has contracts with large scale breeders (reads Puppymill) and we get the puppies brought in to us.
So I said well you have had this puppy checked by a vet here right? You know for even parasites at the very least?
She says no but all puppies are fully checked at all the breeders contracted by our company. And if we notice one is sick we send it back. I laughed right out loud, wondering what constituted sick on thier little check lists.
So this whole convs, is being overheard by the couple, who then proceeds to walk out with a disgusted look on thier face's.
I told the girl sorry about screwing up your Puppymill puppy sale. Sadly of course the dog was gone the next week probably sold to some poor saps that thought it would be a neat gift or something. Little do they know the problems they are most likely in for.
We don't have any pet stores that sell dogs in our town. I guess I am lucky for that because I just couldn't stand all those little sad faces in the window. If I don't buy from a good reputible (sp?) breeder than I plan on adopting.
