Jerry my 4 years well trained cool bitch having expensive habit of chewing furnitures, shoes, while kept alone at home, or at midnight when every one at sleep.
I was having knowledge of this problem at her puppy age, and this is very uncommon in matured dog at 4 years of age. I thought may be of keeping her alone for few hours at home is wrong, so I stop keeping her alone from last few months but the habit not changed even 1 percent. every night she is sleeping next to my bed, but at midnight she goes to the drawing room and start chewing all the arm rest of our sofas, believe me this is 4 th time, I spent huge amount for repairing our sofa set.
She already and totally damaged my adidas jogging shoes, 3 pairs school shoes of our daughter. I will appreciate some guidance, suggestions from you friends.
You could confine her to a room where she does no damage when you can't watch her. Or, maybe spraying the things she chews with some type of deterrent? I haven't used anything like that yet, so I don't know if they work. Right now, I'm using a spray bottle filled with water on my puppy when he starts chewing something he shouldn't be. It hasn't started working yet, though!
I wouldn't let a dog that does damage to my things to have free run of the house. If you can't watch the dog it should be crated, or confined to a room where there are not items to damage. If you'd like the dog to be in your room at night, have you closed the door so it can't get to other parts of the house? Otherwise, find a room where the dog can do the least damage and keep it there when you aren't around....good luck
my beagle also chews things up when we are gone. we think that she has sepperation angsiety. you could lock your dog up at night either in a crate or in you room. put your dog on your porch or outside when you leave, that might help.
