Hmmm... What other traits are you looking for? Would you rather an extremely all people friendly breed? A breed who will love you and your family and be "guarded" about others? Do you have young children? Is barking a concern? I want more info and then I can think on it.
I personally wouldn't recommend a vizsla if you want something that isn't high maintenance. They are wonderful family dogs, but since they are used primarily for hunting, they have a very high energy personality and require a lot of exercise and stimulation.
A dog that doesn't get huge, but isn't a small breed dog either that I think would do well in your situation is an old english bulldog. Very mellow and laid back, easy to care for. They do require frequent cleaning because they can get dirt in the folds of their skin.
Or maybe even a dog from a shelter that is medium sized but several years old. That way, they are already potty trained and out of that 'puppy phase'.
The other traits that I am looking for are, people friendly, but loyal to his family over strangers. My husband and I don't have kids, but will within the next 2 years. barking is not a huge concern. My main concern is that they will mesh well with our kids as we have them.
