I am sorry but I think that is wrong. I do not blame the Pit Bulls per say, but just because the owner is ignorant to the breed does not, IMO, mean she deserves 6 years in Prison. It's bad enough all of the dogs were shot to death. I am pretty sure everyone on here who owns Pits thinks that their dogs wouldn't attack and kill someone. And most of you know the breed. I feel sorry for the person who was killed and the other people that were attacked but it is not always the owners fault. It is not like she sicced them on them. I do agree that stronger training and actions should have been taken care of, that should have been ruled after the first dog bite. I bet this wouldn't have even made the news if it were a lab! And she probably wouldn't have to spend six years in prison if she had just chosen another breed. Nice how the system works, ain't it?
I too agree that 6 years is harsh but one of these dogs had bitten before so she was aware of the danger. I do think she deserved some jail time but not 6 years. She knew her dogs had the potential to do harm and she did not properly restrain them. I don't feel sorry for her but I do her children.
She knew her dogs had bitten before and she didn't even have a decent fence. I think she deserved it. She caused more people to look at the breed badly and now hers are all pts. If one of her dogs had never attacked before though, it would be totally diferent.
"She probably wouldn't have to spend six years in prison if she had just chosen another breed. Nice how the system works, ain't it?"
You're 100% correct; had she chosen another breed other than pit bull, she would not have been in violation of the Pit Bull ban in the area.
I think it would have made the news no matter what breed it was. The news I read is the same news you do; plane crashes and suicidal students leaping off buildings, bank robberies that go wrong, land mines in some war zone and celebrities keeling over before their time because of drug overdoses. We're just more attentive to dog attacks because we're dog owners ourselves.
I'm ok with the sentence; I feel awful for her kids, worse for the last moments of that woman alone in the barn, terrified. Getting mauled to death by animals is a very basic, primal fear.
