There is a dog park that I take my puppy to everyday, no one leashes the dogs there and they all get to play. So me and Riley (my pup) were getting ready to leave and Riley saw a dog, looked like a black chiuhuawa but bigger, and he tried playing with it... but of course Riley is 51 pounds lol. So he was chasing the little dog and then he went to say hi to the owner, and he jumped up on him (which Im in process of teaching him NOT to do) and the guy got aggervated cause his precious clothes got dirty. (but HELLO, we're at a dog park and theres mud everywhere..) and anyawy, then he got mad that Riley was playing with his dog and started yelling and picked his dog up, so being that the dog is in this guys arms Riley tried to jump up to get it and the guy put his fist in the air and screamed "get down" in this really nasty voice. This all happened so fast that by the time I realized his fist was in the air the only thing I could do was grab Riley and say "get away from that nasty man" Then we went back to the car and it sunk in that this idiot was going to hit my dog, I could have really knocked him out. Why would you bring your dog to a DOG PARK if you dont have patience for dogs??? grrrrr
I think dog parks in theory are great. many are to small and over crowded. and many people are very tempermental thier. i have choosen not to frequent sdome dog parks in my area. some of our dog parks are outright unhealthy for humans and canines to be in. I choose to live my life with dogs i now only frequent one dog park that is huge. we had 1 problem there so far. I usually take my dogs to the schutzhund field now. and let them socialize with the sport dogs. and also everyone there is very tolerante.
I worked with our dog doing off leash commands, and the 25 or so people there stared. It seemed that no one's dogs had any training, not even for simple stuff, and it was a foreign concept I had treats on me to make sure my pup would find me interesting enough to pay attention to.
A man sitting in a chair at the dog park back handed my pup (19 pound cocker) because she jumped up on him. She was the only femeale in the park and was looking for people to comfort her because the dogs were all over her. I was mad. She barely touched him.
Mafia -- My pup goes to obediance classes and has lots of training as well. And I ALWAYS carry treats. I don't understand how someone COULDNT train their dog.
I would have hit him back lol. How much harm can a little cocker spaniel do?? And I agree, some people either need to grow some patience or not own a dog. I can't imagine what the guy with the dog I saw did when he got mad at it.
lol, people are nuts I tell ya. There are some people that walk where I go that dont have dogs but they LOVE them.
The place I go like I said is just trails, and this guy (who doesnt own a dog) made all the trails himself... he has woodchips down, markers on the trees, signs, he made small bridges to cross the water..all so we can take our dogs there!!! So there are some good ones out there ;)
we dont have a dog park where i live, in fact we dont have much of anything, not even walmart, target or kmart. yep we are small but..... i live in the woods so i have a dog park in my back yard the only problem is no other doggies to socialize with, so instead my pups just chase critters. :)
if this a leash free dog park ,then you should expect when you go there that you might get a few "greetings" from the four legged visitors. dress appropriately for the occasion. dogs are dogs and some are more excitable than others . i myself love all dogs and would be happy to have the friendly welcomes. when dogs get playing they dont always remember their "manners" no matter how well they are trained. ease up an enjoy the affection !
I feel you sooooooooooooooooooo dang much....I completly HATE THAT....omg, i hate it....
1.) We have owners that their dogs get into physical altercations ALL THE TIME, yet they continue to bring their dog to the park..and i'm not talking rough playing...i'm talking full fledged fights...just a completly aggressive, non-dog friendly animal..One incident, and my dog is going to be in the back yard...no more park for him....you have to consider his safety and the other dogs..
2.) Owners that bring their dogs to the park and expect the dogs to sit down and drink tea or something....THEY ARE DOGS, THEY DO ROUGH HOUSE....they will jump on people....jesus, some times i feel like killing the owners...if the dogs are playing around and having a good time, and knocking each other over, it's not a life threatining situation!!! you dont have to save your dog every time he gets knocked down....and you're at a dog park...dogs will jump, so DONT COME IN YOUR SUNDAY'S BEST!!!!!!!...
It is real quite comical. many people fear the moose. even though the moose is about the most social dog i have ever met. never fights, has been known to herd attacking dogs off other dogs. and he hasn't met another living thing he hasn't loved. but at 125lbs he can be quite intimadting. I never run to get him when people are scrambling to "save thier dog" i never go get him when they decide to bring treats to an off leash dog park. I don't let him steal toys. which he has be known to do. I see many people cringe with nervousness while during play he let's one of his booming woofs. I smile inside when they finally figure out he was built comfort and not harm.
I have a good one. true story a women brought a parrot to the park on her shoulders. let's say maybe twenty dogs got wiff. she ran out cussing a swearing saying she was going to sue everyone cause the dogs scratched her while trying to get the bird. there were bird feathers every where, tons of wagging tails and a bunch of jae dropped humans. i don't think she was ever able to wear that sweater again.
"I can understand that guys point of view.He didn't want to be bothered or have his dog bothered. He has that right to be left alone."
Sure, so don't bring the dog there. He knows full well bringing the dog to this paticular place there are at least 10 LARGE dogs there no matter what time you go. They are all regulars, easily excited, and sometimes they jump, and they LOVE to play with eachother. if this isn't what he wants, then don't come.
