I'm just wondering if anyone has any opinions about what type of dog my puppy is there is alot of question and debate about what she looks like. The mother was an English Springer Spaniel, and the father is what we are not sure about. We have been told that she looks Newfie, lab, akita.....we just don't know the vet the first time(8weeks) that she was seen, said lab mix, but the second time(16 weeks) she was seen the vet said newfie. Can anyone help us figure out what she is? http://www.dogster.com/?160185
the pictures on there aren't up to date. she was about 9-10 weeks in those she is now 4months, she is going to be a big dog the mother is 35 lbs. and she is already 34 lbs. the father was only seen at a distance and they told us that he was a big dog and his tail curled up to his back. The only dog that I can think of with a tail like that is akita but she has the markings of a Newfie..
Akitas do have tails that curl over their backs, but unless her ears are a little more erect now, I don't see the akita in her. Maybe in the line of the brow but that's it, not in the coat length for sure. I'd think with an ESS for a mother and an Akita for as sire there'd be a LOT more coat than that. It's possible that her father was just a big mixed breed dog that was handsome, there's no knowing if he was a purebred or not. AKita tails tend to curl very tightly over the back and they have very dense and longish (wolfish) coats.
I'm not sure it is so hard to tell at this point I guess we'll just have to wait and see what she looks like as she grows...Her coat is thick and water repellant and she has webbed feet. I thought that newfies have a thick water repellant coat. at this point she looks like lab but a few weeks ago newfie....
Her face looks newfie to me and I can definitely see some springer spaniel in her. I guess time will tell. You never know what the dad was. Like someone else said, he could be a mix of some kind and then you never know. She may have lab, springer span. and newfie in her! Whatever she is she's adorable!!
