what I mean is on the web sites I have been looking at no one mentions the color golden they do say red but the golden is a much deeper red. They were first considered in 1928 in The Red & Golden Cocker Spaniel Club. If anyone has any information please get back to me. and Ty in advance .
do you mean like a chestnut red like some golden retrievers are? or do you mean a red like an irish setter? i have never seen a cocker that was red. i have only seen them in buff, black and parti-color which can be either buuf and white or black and white.
Hi Darla8; I spoke top my best buddy this morning, she is a 30 year breeder of American Cocker Spaniels. ASCOB in the US covers any solid colour other than black, right from the palest platinum, sometimes referred to as silver buff, through beige, shades of gold, and red all the way to chocolate which may or may not have tan markings over the eyes as well as on the legs and under the tail. This is where I get a little fuzzy on the details, she has a litter of sables (now 2 years old) that she kept back to show. We can show them in Canada but they are not an allowed colour in the US show ring. Her sables are both sbl and white parti and solid sables. Josie, her solid girl is the dog I thought of when I say your post. She took a 5pt major out of the classes in a November show, one of her compeditors described her colour as radiant, and that person doesn't like sables at all. I asked her about the reds, it is her opinion that the red colour seems to be tied to some undesireable traits in the Cocker such as sparse coat, and a coarse head. That seems to be why they may have fallen from favour. The American Cocker Spaniel is the breed affected by one of the highest numbers of potential genetic abnormalities at 58, ( the Shih Tzu I believe is in the high 30s) find a breeder who tests and who guarantees, and who honors their guarantees. Check References!! Good luck with your search.
I want to thank you all for my information. I do realize that buff is a color, however buff is not the color of golden or red at all. I would like to talk to tjruff if I could I do feel your friend knows of what I 'm talking about. Thank You so much . my email is firstname.lastname@example.org and anyone else who can help TY
