I thought your requirements involved needign a dog that would run with you. Doxies can suffer from back injury being so long, and it might not make a good running partner.
It really depends upon what draws you to the breeds. And if you fully understand what thse particular breeds are like.
I have a dog that doesn't suit my lifestyle, but I can't give her up. But it's made me far more cautious about what each breed is like. That it's not a dog in X size, and I think that one is cute. They can be so very very different, especially if you don't know what you are getting into.
Gosh, I kind of would go for the underdog, too. What's actually rong with the Eskie? You said he wasn't in good hape. Is he just overweight, underweight, , or is is something very serious? If it's only a weight problem, I'm sure that can be remedied witout out much problem. Which one has been at the Shelter longer? I have to agree and say that the Eskie would require much more grooming, and I it depends on how time you want you want to put into grooming him, and whether you're willing to put up shedding.
Tough choice to be honest, and I don't know much help we're being, but whichever one you choosee, bless our heart for wanting to rescue a dog and give him a loving home.
I have never owned an eskie, but I can say....Dachshund! lol
I have several minis and I just LOVE them!! they are sweet and loving and smart, but they are stubborn and can be a major pain to train. Doxies are not for everybody. They quickly learn if they can buffalo you, and if they do, you are in TROUBLe. lol
well, if you mean not in shape as in =eats alot and is fat, that might be a problem with the American eskimo dog. also, American eskimos like kind of cold temperatures, so if you live in a warm place or your like the heating on, the eskimo dog might have some subtle discomfort; also, both dogs need a fair amount of space.
the eskie is 4 years old, it did not have good appearance what I meant is the hair, specially teeth did not look good.It looks little bit under weight
This shelter folks in Ozone park ( Bobbi & the strays) said after a good grooming he will look better
He will be a good companion for long walk than Dashuand right? that is a plus
in the negative side hair hair right?
I can take him to Dog Groomimg place . There is one close to my home If I decide to adopt him I played with him for a while. He is too freindly .
The other guy (Dashuand ) is 2 years old he is friendly . his appearnce is ok . teeth is good, I know I can only take him for short walk not long walk If I adopt him and also easy to groom and maintain not much shreding right?
I have a stupid question, by "pet free" do you mean you just don't have a pet yet or are you not allowed to have a pet in the apartment? I forgot to ask, why do you need to get a dog right a way, perhaps the shelter will get another small dog in a few days, getting a pet shouldn't be a quick decision, you need to take some time and get to know the animal, ask if you can take it to a room and sit and play with it a little or take it outside to a fenced in area and interact with it to make sure you both like each other don't go just on looks each animal has its own personality. Take time in the beginning and you won't regret it in the long run.

I'm glad to har the Shelter is being so diligent. I've adopted two two Shelter dogs, and although both aked a gazillion questions, as well as for references, neither asked to visit my home. Did the Shlter give you any idea how long it would be before before you got our new furry friend? Did you pick out a name for im yet, or will you keep the name the Shelter gave to him?
Please kpet us posted and let us know you bring him home I wish you the best of luck with him and I hope he brings you lots of love and happness.
Are there kids around a lot? I know in TP is says that American Eskimos are good with kids, but... My parents had one for about 5 years. He seemed great. When I was three I walked over by him while he was eating. He attacked me. I had to get stiches. We talked to a lot of people after that, friends, family, people at pet stores, almost all of them told us that they aren't good with children. I don't really know much about them. We had to get ridd of him and we haven't had another one. Well, Good Luck! I hope you pick the perfect one! :)
i ahve 2 eskies and an 11 yr old kid. she was 9 when we got the first dog. eskies get a bad rap, but, if socialized properly, are awesome family pets. mine are great with our kid, her friends, etc. love to chase and yap with them. i am leery of real little kids, but simply because we have none and they have never been around them, so i dont know how they would perceive them. my b/f neice came to visit (2 y/o) and after 2 weeks with her g-parents and their dobies, she was a doll with our 2 dogs. but any kid and any dog needs supervision.
also: an eskies coat is a reflection of its diet. a poor diet makes for a horrible looking coat. also consider if he was omatted, had to be shaved for mats, fleas, etc. a month or so of high quality diet makes a world of difference.
I will be going again Tomorrow , They are bringing the dogs and Cats to Broadway ( between 42nd amd 43rd street) They want me to come Tomorrow again to ck it out
sure I will spend more time with Dashuand ( It is a standard one 20 pounds ) Earlier mistakenly i said minitaure . it is not minitaure I will play with him and see how he reacts
I do not have childern yet. He is going to be my eldest Son
I like American Eskimos too. I did research on it. I am concerned of shedding .Hair Since I live in one bedrrom apartment, I prefer a dog not shedding a lot Even the shelter people said it sheds more than any other breeds when I move to a biger house and If I get another dog in the future that will be American Eskimo only.
My wife also does not mind Dashuand . So I think I will go with it
I will spend more time Tomorrow with the dog and tks for your advice I like the shelter folks They are very helpful and kind I will also get their advice
I am still not sure what dog they are going to give me. Hope They will give me dashuand
they have a lots of small dogs there also
I will get the dog only from Bobbi & Strays shelter since they are good people and take care of the pets very well. ( I am told they keep the dogs here till people adopt). I respect them for it
I am not sure about the name yet
can dogs have uncommon name
I like the name Bharath . Is it ok for a dog ?? ( that will be the name If I have a son)
I read somewhere the names should be easy for the dog to understand
Will ck the answers on Tuesday folks
