Our Dal LOVES coming for drives in the car. We got him a harness when he was 12 weeks old but he hated it, would get his legs all twisted up in it etc and it seems a little dangerous. Now he sits in the back with his head slightly out the window but he also reaches through and puts his feet on our shoulders closest to the window and tries to put his head out the front windows. This can be dangerous if you are driving with a Dal squashing your collarbone! He also tries to walk in between the seats and get in the front. We are going to try him with the harness again now that he is 18 weeks old. We think it was too big for him when he was 12 weeks. Does anyone else have any suggestions for safe car travelling? Do you use a harness?
i used to let scout free in the car. she was usually pretty good. then all of a sudden she started hating the car. she paces back and forth and cries. she clocked me in the face with her mouth one day and i saw stars. since then she has been in the seat belt harness that is mad for dogs. she also got all twisted up and hog tied in it the first few times it was on. now she has adjusted to it and she is fine. i have treated many animals who have jumped out of moving vehicles and believe me not all were able to be saved. one girl i worked with , her dog jumped out of the car window and has had to have her front leg amputated as a result.
