I NEED HELP! MOMMY HAD 8 PUPPIES AND LOST ONE AND I'M AFRAID WE'LL LOSE ANOTHER. HE'S A THIRD OF THE SIZE OF THE 6 OTHERS AND HE'S NOT EATTING WELL. I HAVE A BOTTLE AND MILK THAT I'VE TRIED TO HELP HIM ATLEAST WORK ON LATCHNG ON BUT WHEN HE'S WITH MOM THE BIG BOYS DON'T GIVE HIM A CHANCE. AM I BEING A WORRY WORT OR IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE I CAN DO TO HELP HIM ALONG?
Sounds like you have a 'runt' of the litter. Sometimes you can help these puppies along by supplemental feeding in addition to feeding them along with the bigger stronger puppies. But sometimes not. Try and help it to nurse off the momma as much as possible, and feed it with supplemental feedings of a puppy milk substitute as well, as much as it will eat. However, be aware that he may be too weak and not survive despite your best efforts.
hi, i run a puppy rescue in alabama and have had severel puppies i had to nurse. if it is not feeding from a bottle try an eye dropper. also instead of expensive puppy formula, (which is sometimes to strong for newborns) you should try evaporated can milk. mix it half and half with pedilite water for babies. i have raised many littlers on this formula. if you start with this mixture, you must stay with it until it eats on its own. how old did you say these puppies are? and what kind? are you using a regular baby bottle or a puppy bottle? let me know if i can help more.
