I just posted saying I was so happy to be a new foster mom for our pound. I also said that this site helped me see the truth about designer mutts, byb, and puppymills. I even said how this site enlightened me. I said that if not for this site I would have never known about petfinder.com and I would have never written to my local shelter offering my services. I actually praised this site and some people who showed me the light. I was never a byb nor did I ever own a designer mutt but I never did realize the truth. Designer mutts are bred by byb and their own goal is to make money. We should visit our local pound and rescue facilities and not buy from pet stores b/c they get their puppies from byb. Maybe if we refrain from purchasing dogs from these less than honorable people we might be able to control the pet population and less dogs will be put down. I said all these positive words and yet some people still found something to fight about? Is it me or do some people on this site come here to argue? Are some people so bored that they have to fight for enjoyment. I say volunteer at the pound .. helping save lives is very enjoyable!
love doggies I argued with you. I understand how you feel and please dont take this the wrong way but I felt like you were a little adamant that your point of view was the only way. I personally believe there are responsible breeders who don't breed 1,000. and up pups. It is not fair to lump all breeders in the same pile. I don't care to argue about this any more as I told you my breeder has been breeding for 30 years. Her dogs are healthy and as far as test I don't know what ones she does. I trust her judgement. As a dog owner who owns a dog I took offence at your implied criticism of my pet. As I said b/f he is perfect. As far as this site goes from my experience their are many helpful people on here. and some nuts. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It works best when we respect the right of others to disagree with us.
it is human, and it is oaky to argue, nothing to be frightened of. there is a lot of resolution. the people good at resolution seem to stay. the ones that are not, leave. conflict is such a no no, whent he whole time that is what makes people grow. and i know, people get mean. so. i have had worse happen to me. i have had major arguements on here that got nasty with people whom now are my friends.
BYB means breeder who breeds more than one breed of dog. BYB means someone who breeds without trying to enhance the breed. You can't just breed a dog b/c you happen to have another dog of the same breed. There is more to it than that. You should breed dogs because they are a fine example of the breed. If you produce more than one litter a year, you are a backyard breeder. Some backyard breeders can breed dogs for 50 years that alone doesn't make them legitimate breeders. All breeders should test their animals, it's not only right it is the responsible thing to do. I love all dogs no matter where they came from. I just believe that if we continue to buy dogs from BYB we are supporting them. Haven't you heard of pet overpopulation. I never said that a dog needs to cost $1,000 for it to be a good dog. I have never paid $1,000 for any dog. I said if you want a dog and plan on buying from a petstore or BYB you might want to rethink your decision because you are supporting these people and their bad business. Instead of buying from BYB or petstore maybe you should adopt from a pound. I am not putting down any dogs, I love them all that's why I volunteer at the pound, I don't get paid so why go if I don't love animals. By my experience at the pound has shown me that BYB and puppymills are the main reason why dogs end up at the pound, overpopulation and irresponsible breeding. It's a shame that many dogs have to die just because BYB and puppymills want to make a buck. So if your breeder breeds more than one breed of dog, doesn't do testing, produces more than one litter a year, etc then she is in fact a BYB if not then she isn't so therefore I am not talking about her or you.
lovedoggies, I think you should check your statistics. Just because someone has more than 1 litter per year doesn't automatically make them a BYB. And also, someone can breed one and only one breed, and still be a BYB-it's not limited to just those who breed more than 1 type of dog.
Oh, and also-I think pets in shelters have more to do with misguided owners than with breeders. People who didn't realize that the dog was going to bark, that the dog would have accidents in the house, that the dog would bark so much, that the dog would eat so much, that the dog didn't come already 100% trained to come, sit, stay, etc. Instead of blaming breeders, why not ask people why they are giving up their pet?

I said one of the main reasons not the only reason pets are in shelters. If BYB and puppymills did not exist then there wouldn't be as many unwanted dogs around. There is an overpopulation. BYB breed their dogs as often as possible without any consideration for the dog or the pet population. Responsible breeders require you to sign a spay/neuter contract upon purchasing the dog. If dogs are spayed or neutered it also helps reduce he pet population.
Please read what I said carefully. I do stand by my statement that BYB and puppymills are only here to make money. Do you really believe that they care about dogs? Give me a break.
Oh and also legitimate breeders offer support to all their clients. If you have any questions they are very happy to help you. Most legitimate breeders also make you sign a contract that if you are going to give up the dog you can surrender the dog back to the breeder.

I agree with most of what you say. I also don't think anyone should buy a puppy from a pet store or from a BYB. But no matter where a person gets a dog from, that doesn't excuse them giving the pet up for some silly reason. A dog is a life time commitment, and if more people would understand that... But I commend you for the work you do in the shelter.
A lot of people actually adopt puppies from shelters and then return them. They have no idea how hard it is to raise puppies. It takes time, patience and dedication. I am not saying that BYB and puppymills are the only ones to blame for dogs being in shelters. Not what I said at all. But I do know they are in existense because people continue to buy from them. I also know they care nothing about dogs. My whole point was do not buy dogs from BYB and puppymills but rather adopt from the pound. As for people returning their dogs or dumping them in shelters that is a different issue. It's ignorance, lack of patience etc that makes them give up on their dogs. My whole point and my only point is if BYB and puppymills ceased to exist because we stop supporting them this world would be a better place. We also would not have a booming pet populationt hus our shelters wouldn't be bursting at the seams. Will it stop people from surrending their pets, no it won't but it will greatly lessenthe problem of pet overpopulation.
LMAO! I have never experienced anything negative in this website! I have no idea what you are talking about!
LMAO! SO BAD!
peanut, those kind of comments just keep it going, which makes me wonder if you are enjoying all the bickering. why cant you just let it die ! even when people DO try to be nice, you have to come back with some snide remark. why dont you just get a good nights sleep and hopefully things will be better in the morning. not everyone is out to get you . the beam me up was a hint that i need to get out of this thread because you dont want to just let it go, put it behind you, and move on. but i just wanted to tell you that the door swings both ways and when they do try to be decent to you, you just throw it back in their face. i am sorry if anything that i have said has offended you . i just think that if you want people to treat you nice, you have to retirn the favor
Dusty did you read the first post? I am not peanut nor do I act or speak like her .. LOL I was just wondering how come I said something I thought was entirely positive and some people still found something to get angry about. I felt as if some folks around here argue because they are bored or they just like the negativity. How can you find anything negative about my praising this site for enlightening my views about dogs? This site made me volunteer in animal shelters. I currently share my time with 2 shelters. I am currently fostering a sick dog that was to be put down. If I hadn't come to this website I would have never learned about petfinder.com I e-mailed rescue groups and that is why I am now involved in saving lives because of this site. I also shared my experience that BYB , puppymills, and pet stores are evil and I will never give them my business again. I am trying to inform others like me who had no clue about the truth. I have seen the light. I am trying to inform many others out there. If you reach just one person then you have done a good thing. Maybe that person will visit the shelter and save a life. That is what I have been saying and I still have gotten negative remarks . That's my only point.
