My puppy got 3 sets of puppy shots. He got the third (along with a rabies shot) at 15 weeks. The vet told me to bring him back in a month for a booster. When I asked about a booster--the vet said something about the pup develops its immunities somewhere around 16 weeks and it is not clear exactly when and since my pup got his 3rd set of shots at only 15 weeks then he should get another one in a month to be on the safe side. This was relayed to me through the vet tech. I do not have a regular vet right now as I was not happy with the vet that i was going to and the vet that told me this (about getting a 4th shot) was not my regular vet--it was the vet that neutered my pup. Has anyone heard of this? The vets around me are so expensive--it will cost around $75 for this booster and I dont want to do it if unnecessary.
My puppy got her set of shots at 6,9,12,16 weeks. Some vets like doing four sets of shots. I personally would have only wanted my pup to get three boosters, but the breeder gave the first three and I guess that a booster should be done around 16 weeks, so I had to give her the last one at 16 weeks. My vet also said that at 16 weeks is when the puppys immunity kicks in. I think 15 weeks is close enough to 16 weeks, so I think he will be fine, but consult with the vet first.
