all of a sudden starts humping?!!! Maggie did this to me twice today! She's only 6 1/2 months old, and she was spayed 1 month ago, so she can't be in heat. And besides, I thought only male dogs did this? (obviously, I was mistaken, lol) Also, what can I do when she does this to stop her?
Females do hump but i have never heard of a spayed female doing it....So it could be a dominance thing since she is entering adolence and is testing all the boundries. Or do you have another female that isn't spayed in the house?? My two girls tend to hump each other and play fight when one or the other is in heat.
Like someone said before since she is spayed I bet it's a dominance thing.
I had a dog that did that even though he was fixed.
What you should do is when she humps you; firmly say NO!, get her off you, and redirect her to something else.
Or, you can get a spray bottle and keep it with you so when she humps spray her with water.
Or, get a plastic water bottle and put a couple little rocks or pennies in it, put on the lid. When she humps you shake it hard near her (don't hit her with it) then it will startle her so she'll get off.
Your girl is showing dominance... if she is humping you, she is trying to dominate you. I would end all human priveledges that she has (sleeping on the furniture or in bed, walking out doors before you, etc.) and start putting her in a down stay when she humps. Work on her OB and show her that you are the alpha. She's only 6 months old right now and it may seem cute, but if she were to continue this as she gets older, you could have some big dominance issues on your hands.
I'm with Bullymom.. Cider 'hugs' other dogs to try to prove her dominance.. other owners think they are all cute and hugging.. better that way. Few people want a cocker dominating their large dog..
But she used to dominate my roomate and ex bf. They wouldn't force her to stop, so it took months to get her to quit it. They were always mad that she wouldn't do it to me, and wouldn't believe it was because I was dominant to her.
do the "nothing in life is free" program. nothing unless she sits or downs for you. no attention, no food, no water, no walks, no eye contact. both my spayed females do it, though never have to humans. she is trying to dominate you and you don't want that. no sleeping in your bed as above and no on the furniture either. i'd to the vinegar and water spray bottle at the head too when she does it to anyone.
i would'nt know how to answer your question ,b/c i'am having the same problem with my little chi/although he's not a cat,but he's just 6mo. old .but he waite for company to come over and run and get pooky his stuff bear and start hummping away .i get so embrasse by this .i tell the family he's showing off. then he gets mad when i take pooky away from him.when we are along i just ignor him & ms pooky.then he stops when i 'am not paying them any attention i just act like i dont see them.you have to really spend a day with teacup ,sometimes the family and think he's human or been here before .we never know what to expect next.
it's a socialization thing, the dog when it was young before 5 weeks had minimal contact with the pups outside the litter and mama. many people fear what other adult dogs will do to the pups sp they segragate. the truth is between 4-6 weeks dog to dog socialzation outside of the litter and mama are key, if the dog has "too much" contact with humans and not enough with other dogs. it will start to relate with humans more than dogs. even manifesting itself sexually.
