I have a 3mo old male jackrussell who accidently swallowed a womans hair scrunchie ( fabric hairband) I took him to the vet and they tried to induce vomiting of which he did, but the hairband did not come up. they suggested that i try some mineral oil in his food. he is active, playful responsive and eats, but has only passed 2 stools not containing the hairband. i am worried please advise? thankyou. mrs.K
as long as he's pooping and eating fine, I wouldn't get too stressed because it means food is going through the gastrointestinal system. If he starts vomiting, getting listless, and stops pooping, you need to take him to the vet and possibly have exploratory surgery done on him to remove the hair tie, it'd mean that his GI tract was obstructed.
LIKE THE PREVIOUS POST SAID, DON'T WORRY TOO MUCH, IF THE DOG IS ACTIVE IT WILL BE OK. TRY SOME GREAZE FROM HAMBURGER ON THE FOOD. JUST A LITTLE IT WILL TASTE BETTER THAN THE MINERAL OIL. JUST WATCH WHERE IT POOPS.
My dog will eat almost anything. He's 9 yrs. old and is alive and has practically perfect health for hi age. Rusty has eaten a full bag of chocolate and all he has now is a heart problem. (It's literally too big.) Whenever he gets too excited he starts coughing. Well, anyway, dont worry about it. Your dog should be fine as long as it's eating right and is active.
I would keep a close eye on this. If the scrunchie had elastic inside which it probably did this could get twisted in the bowel and cause a blockage. If the dog stops having bowel movements, vomiting, and his stomach looks distended and feels hard you need to get the animal to the vet agian this may be signs of a bowel blockage and the animal doesnt last long with this problem.
My friend's Basset Hound ate a pair of her underwear (dog will eat anything!) and the vet said to give her a piece of bread?!? I don't know what this is supposed to do but you could try it. Maybe it produces enough bulk to push the object out. Anyway, Molly's bowels gave up the underwear - couldn't hurt to try! Good luck!
I have dobermans they can and will eat anything. ginger has eaten a pair of socks, barbie clothes, tape lots of it, tissues every chance she gets, typical goat but all dobbies are. vet book says punkin pie mix i have used this it works great. will give them soft stool for a few days but it works really good
My 14 week old American Water Spaniel ate a hair scrunchie today. How did your dog make out with his episode with the scrunchie? I used 1/2 oz hydrogen peroxide to induce vomitting and it came right up.
The peroxide is good to give to induce vomiting, also a tablespoon of salt. The person who said watch for the stomach distending, vomiting, and not eating is on target. These type of things can get wrapped around the intenstines and cause major problems. The next step would be x-rays to see if there is a blockage if the pet has any of those symptoms.
Okay My dog ate my daughter sock. My daughter was so upset. I would just watch the dog. if he/she is playing and eating and normal just watch when the dog goes potty. You can make your dog throw up but it should be right after they swollow it. Proxide is the best to make them throw up . but now it is a waiting game. my female lab ate the sock and it took almost three weeks and it showed up. counldn't believe it, my daughter went up to her kennel to feed her and while she was eating my daughter found it.. grabbed it *YUCK* and showeed it to me.. I yelled DROP IT, remember were it came out of.. laughing that was funny. anyways you would be shocked to hear the stories I heard looking for help when Jewel swollowed the sock. Just keep an eye on your dog. It should be fine.. I looked up dogs doing this and i read that a dogs have two different digestive systems and the yuckies go one way and what is suppose to go thru the body of the dog goes another way. so dont' panic to much just keep an eye on him/her. Good luck and keep us posted when you get it back....
My daughters family have a dalmation that loved to eat the babys disposable diapers! That was disgusting for sure. He had no trouble passing them. Just left strange REALLY BIG white poops in the yard. I doubt that the scrunchy will present any problem.
UPDATE ON SCRUNCHIE EATER... she vomitted the foreign object almost 2 days later!!! my daughter called me at work and said she found the scrunchie..in a pile of vomit. dog is doing fine. thanks for your comments & suggestions.
One of my babies got into my husbands cigar box and chewed one up.....i flipped out and called the vet, and he told me not to worry, just make sure she had lots of food and water out...so i did, and two days later she is fine....PHEW!!!
Help! I have one of these situations now as well. My 11 wk old yellow lab swallowed a fridge magnet friday (today's monday). It's round and plastic on top. About a half an inch wide, maybe a few centimeters tall. I called the vet after I she swallowed it, who suggested peroxide (which I didn't have) or mustard. The spicier the better for vomitting. That didn't work. Today I took her to the vet and after an xray the magnet is sitting at sideways on the bottom of her stomach, in the vortex, under the diaphram. It hasn't cleared the rib cage yet. She's been eating and pooping without any problems, although he's worried that it may cause blockage at some point or not pass from that area and get stuck. Surgery is $1000. Chances of her surviving surgery are 50/50, maybe 60/40. Money's tight now, though we love her. How long do I give while she's still active and eating for her to poop it out?
I think I would honestly at this point be concerned that making her vomit in an effort to bring it back up may cause it to lodge in her throat cutting off her ability to breathe. I dont think it is something I would do at home. If the vet thinks its an option, I would have it done at his office.

People are like slinky's, not really good for much. But its still fun to push them down the stairs.
I just wanted to thank all of you for your more than helpful posts! My 17 month old puggle swallowed half of a stuffed animal (the hat from a santa!) and I had no idea what to do. I took the advice on the peroxide and it worked wonders. It only took about 5 minutes after giving it to him for him to come up with Santa's hat! Thanks again for everything, I can rest easy tonight...
I have a 13 lb. Boston Terrier and she was vomiting alot last night. Well first let me tell you about a nasty habit she has...Eating lots of poop!!! :( Well the vomiting is from that because she does it all the time. Her belly was big and when she finished vomiting...puff, back to normal. Well I believe she got loose stool because of all the poop she ate so I decided to take her to the vet last night and figured that it would not hurt because she was due for her next dose of shots. They did an x-ray and came in the room and said she needed emergency surgery for $1,300. oh ok...Well since yesterday afternoon she has been fine...jumping, biting her sister, eating fine, drinking fine, and her stomach is back to normal....Like always. I do not know what to do...We do not have that kind of money and she is acting perfectly great! By the way...Everything she throw up was poop...Just some small pieces of plastic.
One of my opinions is that maybe the x-ray was showing the poop she ate...Because she eats sisters poop too and there is always pieces of fabric and plastic from toys in hers....Any opinions?? Please help....I'm going nuts!
