Hi, I have a quick question about my 3 year old Pointer Mix. A few days ago she woke up not her usual self, didnt eat much and spent most of the day on the couch. She didnt want to go for a walk and was sick once (was only grass) and had loose stools. This lasted 2 days, i didnt phone the vet as she has had upset stomach before and i know what to do. Anyway yesturday and today she has turned completly different, is eating and stools nearly back to normal but she has been demanding attention all day. She goes for a 30-40 min walk twice a day and regularly gets training through the day but she will not settle. She also keeps asking to go in the garden constantly and then if I dont go out with her she asks to come back in straight away to try and get me to go out with her. If she isnt doing this she is at the back of the garden whining for the dog next door or just sitting in the middle of the grass waiting for me to go and play football with her. She is never usually this demanding. This is what is making me think that maybe she is in season but her old owners told me she was fixed. Plus I have seen no signs at all of blood and she isnt swollen. Any thoughts guys?
Our dog often acted very needy and demanding when he had an ear infection or urinary tract infection. We always had to remind ourselves that when he was not his ususal perfect well mannered self that we should take him to the vet. Sudden changes are more than likely environmental (changes in routine or family - someone going out of town, changes in job schedule etc) or medical.
Most likely, she was fussed over a bit while ill, and is missing that. Back off a bit, let it pass and continue with regular routines. Being overly attentive is really not a good idea. Separation Anxiety usually starts that way.
