i have 5 pets now and 4 of them were rescued from dying,,my youngest is just 13 days old,,i got her when she was 10 hours.the people who bred her was going to drown her due to a birth defect that is going to be removed when she is 6 weeks old. 2 days we ago we had to go to tube feeding her because she lost a few ounces, now she is back up to her birth weight.i know she should of doubled her weight but she was real sick.... i guess my point to this is there are so many animals out there that need/want a home,,it isnt their fault how they were raised and or abused,,so many animals getting killed is just sad,,,dont people watch the price is right anymore?????
All 3 of my cats are rescues. My 2 dogs came from a breeder.
I am considering breeding Jasmine. I do visit the shelter just about every other week. I bring huge boxes of donations with me every time. I'm trying to schedule time to train so I can volunteer too. And I do volunteer with a private rescue, transporting animals. I do what I can to help the animals in need. But people are still going to breed. We just have to hope they are responsible about it. (Although most are not)
Go to Google and type in Australian Shepherd (sp) and see what they come up with, bet you'll find something to let you know a little about that breed or go to library or pet store and read about them in books, at least you would know about 1/2 of the dogs trait since you don't know what the mix is. Always good idea to do research before purchasing an animal so you have a little idea what lies ahead for you as far as good traits/bad traits and health issues. Good luck!
Now about those videos, heartbreaking, am still crying and trying to type with the tears just flowing down can hardly see what I am doing. I just lost it, specially at the end seeing those poor babies in the barrels. My concern is should these be posted here since we have some very young viewers? I mean I am in my 50's and I had a hard time handling them. I think people need to be made aware of the situations but am not sure what the correct way is. I don't know if my kids were on here that i would want them to see these specially if they were by themselves. Just my opinion.
i think people DO need to see these videos. if they make even one person re-think their breeding ideas, then they were worth it. there are many people that come on these forums to ask questions about breeding. some are young people. they are our future pet owners. teaching them to be responsible at a young age is what we should all be doing. to some seeing is believing. just word of mouth educating does not always work. allowing them to see the truth of what goes on in the real world, be it picture or video, may be the only way of getting through. it all has to stop somewhere. educating our young is the best way to help slow down the animal overpopulation that is becoming a huge problem. reaching out to all, old and young, will be the only way to help stop the senseless slaughter of unwanted pets. when my daughter watched the video, the first thing she said when it was over ? " if more people would just spay or neuter their pets, there would not be so many in the shelters dying everday". that is just one young person that will be a responsible pet owner if and when she is on her own and decides to aquire a pet. its only one, but it is a start.
Dusty... I agree totally. I will keep it from my 7 year old, but the 2 older ones will get to see it. The earlier you start planting the seed, the quicker the word will grow.
I know when I was young, we never had our animals fixed. When I moved out on my own, I never let my animals roam outside & I made arrangements to get my animals fixed.
Even my parents have changed their ways... recently my parents wanted to get a cat, their last one had passed away. So my mom went to the shelter & picked out a cat for adoption, paid around $70 or so for her, but the spaying was free. She is a beautiful cat & has settled in nicely.
ok guys it getting close to june almost time for me to get teacup a little playmate. why wait to june b/c i will be on vacation to watch them both and make sure they get along i will have time to win them both over. tehe. i just ask god to give me the strenght to go into the shelter and come out with only one dog. i would never get another dog from a breeder again i didnt realize it was so many unwanted puppies out there. ...gee wiz!
so happy to hear that you are going to a shelter to adopt,,my 15 year old is going to volunteer on week ends,,i want her to learn the value of life and that animals have rights just as we do,,after all they have the breath of life too. after we rescued our puppy(when she was just 10 hours old),,we really started to learn alot about byb killing animals that have a minor birth defect...just sad..its going to cost me a few hundred dollars to have her birth defect removed when she is older,,but it is worth it,,she has struggled this far she has the right to live a happy life.....i applaud you
