we live back in the woods. behind our house is heavily wooded . the road that runs in front of the mobile park here, winds around to the side and dead ends. there are a few houses back in there. many times we hear barking through the woods. sounds like a large amount of dogs and when they sound off, it is in a group. i was talking over the fence with the neighbor , when we heard the dogs going off. she told me that she had gotten curious as to what was going on back there. she drove back there . she said they have a huge piece of property and she saw many many pitbulls. they were chained to igloo dog houses and scattered all over the property. i am thinking this explains the pitbull that my other neighbor had found recently. she is concerned that they may be fighting them. i am at a loss on what to do. why would someone keep so many pitbulls chained up all over their property? i dont want to cause problems for the dog owners, but i also feel bad for the dogs that are spending their lives chained to dog houses 24/7.also, its been very hot here lately and is supposed to reach 95 degrees by friday. does an igloo dog house provide enough shade from the sun? i was thinking of driving back up in there , but the neighbor said that when she did, some rough looking guys were watching her closely and it gave her the creeps the way they were looking at her. i dont need any trouble brought here or have to worry about them trying to do something bad to my dogs, but i am worried about the pits and that they may be raising them for fighting. ugh.
We had a house not far away with dogs that would literally rip your tires off. They sure weren't fighting or breeding the, but were running a meth lab. So even though it may not be either, it may be something illegal is going on.
Call AC. I don't think that you driving over there is a good idea at all. If there is something going on, you would be putting yourself in danger. If something happened to you, you would cause a TP uproar because we would all have to fight over your frenchies!!!!
Definitely contact the police/animal control. I would be very suspicious about something like that if it were in my neighborhood. They have all of those Pits for a reason, especially if it looks like they are not very well-cared for. It won't hurt anything to have the police look into it. If they aren't doing anything wrong then they have nothing to hide!
First of all I had to laugh at 90 something being hot...lol...it's been 106-108 for the past 10 days here. Now THAT'S hot! There is something really going on, I would rule out the drug issue, as if this was a drug house, the dogs would probably be running loose. My bet is a fighting operation, and i would call the law and let them handle it. These folks have no problem with letting dogs kill each other and might not have much regard for people's lives either. I would rather call the law than animal control for these same reasons.....
lol bella ! you would have to fight with hubby over the frenchies . lol i am not worried about myself personally. growing up with older brothers and my biker friends, i have learned very well how to defend myself. its just that there are not alot of people around here and so it would not be hard to spot a vehicle . i would worry more about someone coming here and messing with my family when i am not home. i know my neighbor wouldnt lie about what she saw, and i hear the dogs going off from time to time myself. i just dont want to call in a report that i havent seen firsthand. and if i go back in there, they see my car, they get arrested or their dogs seized shortly after, i dont want them looking for the suspicious car that had been seen driving by earlier. i would hate to have to worry about my daughters or my own dogs for any retaliation.
Call the police or AC. Hopefully, they'll go over and check it out. If nothing comes of it, then no harm done. But if they do in fact seize the dogs because of illegal handling, you've done a great deed.
Stay away from that property...don't affiliate yourself with it in any way. Your safety comes first, then the dogs'.
I would definately say they are training the dogs to fight. My husband new someone who bred and raised pitbulls for fighting and he chained all the dogs up so many feet apart in the backyard. He trains them to fight with eachother by keeping them tied up outside only feet from eachother, just enough so the dogs are face to face without touching. IT sounds like they are doing something similar.
i guess its based on where you live and what you are used to. here , the average temp here is between 50-60's. sometimes 70's. we very seldom see 80 degree weather and 90 degrees is totally rare. when your body is used to a steady temperature, and it raises 30 or 40 degrees, it can be quite unbearable, especially for the dogs, who are keeping close to the air conditioner. lol
utopia, sorry from your post you said "I have a yard full of pit bulls and if you come in my home you will get 3 in your lap at one time."
so i assumed you only had three.
it sounds to me as if dusty should do what is right. there are kids in this neighborhood. if there is a drug ring, meth lab, dog fighting, whatever, don't you think that the kids growing up around there shouldn't be exposed to that if "something goes down".
and you say that this breed is known for escaping (wasn't sure if it was the pit or the husky) but i would like you to know that i have six huskies, one of which can escape out of anything if she wants to. And i DO NOT chain any of my dogs. they are all allowed to roam free in the fenced in yard all day and go into their own kennel at night. i have had one incident where she escaped, but other than that it has been pretty much the same old going on here every day. by no means should someone say that they HAVE TO chain their dog to keep them contained. if that is the only way to contain a dog, then something did not go right in the training of that dog.
if someone really cared about how their dogs are contained, and in the case of this man it does not seem to be the case, they would do everything they can to do it. in order for my dogs not to get out, i have my fence buried 1 foot (with milltarp buried about 6 inches into the pens) and it is 7 feet tall. there is no jumping over it or digging under it.
i am just saying that if this were in my neighborhood i would call in an ANYMOUS call and then report it.
dusty do what you feel is right, but have it be known if this was me and i were looking out for the safety of my neighborhood and my own children i would not just shrug it off as nothing.
Utopia, the color of your skin, hair, and eyes has nothing to do with this thread. Why was it important for you to announce that here?
I understand that you are frustrated with the stereotypes that tend to hinder the reputation of bully breeds, and their owners. I am a Pit owner myself, and very protective of my own dog and others like her. That's why, if I were in Dusty's position, I'd do the right thing by calling the authorities to have them take a look around. It's out of respect and concern for the animals' welfare. If an ego or two is bruised in the process, so be it.
i am going up there later when it cools down some. and utopia, it IS my business when it is practically in my back yard. there has already been one pit that has ended up at the neighbors house. it was there for several days before animal control responded and NO ONE came looking for the dog. i dont know why if people have dogs, they keep them chained up all over their yard. it is cruel, imo, regardless of the breed. what kind of life is it to be chained 24/7 and just out of reach from the dogs around it. nothing to do and not even able to play with each other. and i agree with the others, why would they care if animal control checked them out. they could come to my house any hour of the day or night and i would be glad to let them in. i know my dogs are well cared for. so if there is nothing to hide, then they should not care if a home check is done.
Sorry but Utopia I think this person should be turned in, if they are doing anything illegal it concerns us all....drugs hurt everyone, and meth labs result in hazards for everyone around them!
Call AC or the police, get things c hecked out if your wrong and the guy confronts you appologize and go on your way, if your right think of the lives your saving and not just the mistreated dogs either!!
