My son just told us that he is getting married! He leaves for the Army in February and wants to get married in December!! December second to be exact.... Doesnt give mom much time to plan a princess wedding in just two months!!! ( which I know) is what my future daughter in law wants!! I know normally the brides parents do the wedding. BUT... Her family cant afford much of anything. So my husband and I are paying for the wedding and reception and want to make this special for both of them. BUT... I also dont want to hurt anyones feelings!!! Any ideas???
OMG! Better you than me! I cant figure what would be worse..a daughter - in - law or a son going off to the Army. Ok...Both at the same time! LOL! Congrats Major! If she wants a princess wedding she should wait untill after bootcamp and he can wear his dress uniform and look so handsome and dignified next to her in a wedding gown.
Well those hard headed youngins always think they know best!LOL! A wedding planner sounds good to me too. I'm terrible at party planning. How about a white wedding theme since its in the winter? Or what are some of her/his favorite things? you could try to incorporate that into the plans.Make it truely "thier" day. Dont think of what you think is nice...Ask what they think is nice. If anything turns out not so right it'll be easy to blame it on the ole mother -in-law!LOL! Dont fall into that trap! Good luck!! Keep us posted on the big day!
Let me explain a little bit... Michael (my son) Tracey(my future daughter in law) I love them both dearly!!!! Michael lost his first dad when he was nine to a heart attack (which he saw happen) A few years later I met my second husband Gary, He had two girls from a previous marriage and I have a son and daughter.
The kids came to gether GREAT!!! They are brothers and sisters (NO STEPS IN THIS FAMILY).
NOW... let me explain Tracey, She is a sweetheart! BUT.. her real dad abandonded her when she was two weeks old and never saw her again until she hit 17 and then wanted a relationship! Her mom and stepdad are nice but have a few problems I wont get into. She has been living with us for five months now, Let me just say she had it tough!!! I LOVE her like my own daughter and want her to have the wedding of her dreams, BUT.. not much time to plan! My daughter and I took her yesterday and she tried on ten wedding dresses! She had so much fun! She picked the one she wants, Tiara and all !!! (Iwill send Pics) The family is helping(mine anyway) I dont want to step on toes here BUT... If her family doesnt want to help, I want this special for my son and daughter in law! I told her SHE has to decide on what she likes! This is her day!
I want this to be special and I want her to feel like the princess she wants to be!
I would try and base it on a theme. And like someone else mentioned bacause it's in winter make it a snow theme. You can decorate nicely and most things come in white anyways. Have a white carpet for the isles and those sparkly looking snowflakes(plastic) thrown all over the place. The floor and tables covered with it, it will truley look magical. Have snowflakes hanging off the roof and over windows, white lights all around an arch which they can stand under to get married. And only the bride and groom in WHITE. And brides maids and grooms men in an ice or pale blue would go great with it all. With Christmas coming in a few months you will be able to find all you will need by November for winter decorations. And the Tiara would absolutly stand out on her in a winter theme wedding. Hope this helps a bit. Are they having the reception and wedding in the same place?
Yeah they do look so young..but i guess me and my beau did too at one time! I've been with my hubbie since I was 16 so it can work if it was meant to be. Thats great that you could find it in your heart to bring another child into your home. I hope she gets the wedding of her dreams too! Mine was sorta shot gun!LOL!
Congrats! My parents go married after my dad fininshes boot camp but right before he was Stationed in Viringia Beach. I was born there 1 year after tthey got married. I am happy to say they are still married today! I got married myself three years ago. And am now helping to plan my sister wedding. So here are some tips. If a wedding planning is to pricely go to a Hallmark or bridal shop and pick up a Wedding planner book, it will hlep you organize what need to be down first. First things first since the wedding is only a few months away.. book you Reception and Church this week as soon as possible, they book up fast. Then square away any transportation like limos. Call a florist and make and appointment to meet about A month to 1.5 months away from the wedding. Order you invitation once you have booked you all and Church, cause that info goes on the invitations. After that is the little stuff. Oh if you have having a Religious wedding you might have to find out about pre-wedding classes as soon as possible some churches only offer them a few times a year. Hope the helps some. It can be over whelming, but keep in mind its for them and keep asking them if this is how they want things to go. Good Luck and Have fun
I planned my wedding in 2 months. When it was over with I cried from relief.
Make a list, where. music, flowers invitations,I ordered mine online and there are much much cheaper.I made my money tree, favors, pew bows, arch decorations. I found alot of the directions online. Search things online and you will get alot of ideas. You life will be consumed with "The Wedding"
I went away to get married, so I didn't have to do all the planning, that some people do. But a suggestion...if they want to get married on this date, they could go the a justice of the peace, get married, and then plan to have a big reception when he gets home..that way they are married like they want, and you could still have time to plan. At that time you could see if a minister/priest could renew their vows???? Good luck!
Majorlover, I got to help plan my step mom's wedding after she divorced my dad, lol long story there. But anyways to help cut the costs and make it a lil more fun we did a lot of the "little" things on our own. All the center pieces on the tables we made. We bought 50 lbs of candle wax off e-bay for $20, then got the little candle holders from a craft store for cheap cheap lol. It wasn't hard making the candles they turned out really nice. Also on each table was a little Thank You type "gift" from the bride and groom. We took plastick spoons...spoons, not sporks people lol. Then bought pink.....ugh this is hard to explain, it was wrapping paper, but clear pink plastick wrapping paper. In each spoon we placed two Hershey Kissed, wrapped the paper around them and tied with a little ribbon, then attached a note that said, "a spoon full of kisses, from the new mister and misses". There was some other neat things we did, I'll have to call my ex step mom and ask her. Good luck and congrats!!
Tell your son i said GL on the U.S. Army. who knows i might see him some day. and to give you an honest reason he might be rushing the marriage (sp) is he wants her to be able to live on base or close. with out being married she cant be on base with him. GL HF and let us kno Dec. 2nd is the day i change bases!
My niece got married at age 18 to her high school sweetheart while he was still in boot camp (marines). We had our doubts, but that was over 10 years ago, and they are still happily married. Good luck with the wedding, and congratulations to both of them!
