I picked English Springer Spaniels because they are intelligent, goofy, happy-go-lucky, emotional, loving, sporting dogs. I love their love of life, their spunk and energy, I love their ability to be so loving. Best breed in the world, in my opinion!! :)
I studied all these three breeds from books and also spent a good 2 months cking these 3 breeds in my neighbourhood I decided to get a mini doxie . I could not find a mini doxie in any shelters in New York city . I bought Jimmy when he was 1 year old from a breeder from Syracuse
I am very happy I got this great dog ""dachshunds without life is no lfe at all" author unknown
My dogs name is Jimmy ( name of our beloved President Jimmy Carter) I wanted to choose the name Bill ( President Clinton) or Jimmy
I asked the TP members to choose which name is good 99% said Jimmy . I was the only one for Bill
I call him Jimmy becasue that is the name won here
After we had to put down Buddy after 13-1/2 yrs I knew it would be hard to think about another dog for a while. We started talking about what we wanted in the next dog and being that I am a little older now I knew that the next dog had to be on the small size as I am the one taking it to the vets, groomers etc. Buddy was a Golden Retreiver/Collie mix and weighed 68 lbs. and he was getting too hard for me to handle getting him in the car when he was sick and not able to help. I got my hubby to make a ramp and that did help but I know I am not as strong as I used to be and even just walking a larger dog is only going to get harder for me. I always like Westies and Bichons so I did research on both breeds and decided either one would be perfect for our family. The ages in our household range from 22 to 86 so I needed a pet that would meet all our needs and one that we would meet all of its needs. When my husband said I could start looking I was thrilled. I usually go the Humane Society but I know they don't always know what the mix is. I got buddy there and they told me he would be a small medium size dog but he turned out to be larger than they thought so I knew if I wanted to be sure the dog would be small I probably would not be getting it from the Humane Society this time. Well I started looking in the paper, we did not care if we got a mix or a purebreed so I saw this ad for Bichone Frise/Westie mixes, 4 males, I called the lady, my mom, hubby, and I went over and spent 2 hours picking the right pup (I am sure that lady was glad when we left, I don't think she is used to people taking that long) and after taking our time we decided on Cody and we have no regrets, he is a wonderful pet, he can run hardy with the guys and be as gentle as a lamb with my mom and me . He loves to snuggle with us and he gives lots and lots of puppy kisses. He is two yrs. old now and I can see us growing old together. Here is a pic of him, he is a very happy boy! :) Sorry for the long post
I picked a Siberian Husky for the fact I have read up on the breed and have wanted one all my life. They are so beautiful.
My kids are on there own now and I have the time to spend with them.
We do sledding in the winter and running daily.
I found Wiley in petfinder.com and he made a 9 hour trip to be in his forever home.
A year later I desided to add a playmate to the family and found Blaze also in a shelter. Both are pure breeds as Wiley was resued from a home and the people that where beating him filed a law suit against the resue to get there 800.00 dog back or refunded the money. They didn't win!
Blaze was resued from a puppy mill bust. She was very young when I got her.
They are the best things I could have done in my life!

I got Quincy when I was in college. I went one day with a friend of mine to look for a new car. At the car lot I saw a little white cat limping around. I squatted down and picked up this little cat and found that a good portion of her torso was gone... the poor thing had been shot. We rushed her to the Humane Society to see if we could get her some help... no such luck. They had me sign papers to have her put to sleep. I cried like a baby. My friend, knowing what an animal lover I am suggested that we look at the puppy's to make me feel better. There was litter of very small black and brown beagle mixes. This one little guy just stared at me and cocked his head. He looked like a baby Rottie as a pup. I knew that I couldn't leave without him. So my friend and I pooled all the money we had between us and paid the $25 to adopt the pup. That was 11 years ago - he's been with me through a bad relationship, the birth of my son and my marriage to the love of my life...
A year ago I married my husband. He and I decided that more kids were not in our future. I, however around the 6 month mark started wishing I could hear the pitter patter of little feet... so I asked him, "Do you want to have a baby?" He looked at me like I was insane and said .. "ummm.... noooooooooo" - so I asked "can we get a puppy?" He breathed a sigh of relief and said "sure". But we had several things going on and knew that we couldn't do it for another few months. I found Petfinder.com and looked at puppies for hours and hours at a time. I wanted a "little dog" - like a shih tzu or a pomeranian. He wanted something bigger. The thing was the only pups that made us both say "Awwww" and get heart palpitations were the Beagles. That's when I found Charley. Charley reminded me of Quincy (they look like brothers) but was also completely his own dog... and good news... they only thought he would be 20 lbs fully grown. Weeeeeellllll - Charley is 6 months old and weighs 39 lbs now... hahah- the joke was on me.
I love my babies... they're intelligent, playful and easy going. They're lovable and independent at the same time. They are strong enough to put up with an 8 year old lugging them around and yet not so big that they can't sleep with us. They're perfect... and they're mine!
Well... I chose Chihuahuas because I live in an apartment and they dont need a lot of room . We have a rather large apartment and so they ran around in my apartment for a work out. The apartment is large enough to accomodate it . I also litterbox trained them. Now... if I can only train them to use the toilet like the cats do.
As for the mixed breeds I had. I got them primarily because they were also small, but I got them at the pound. I completely support and encourage people to adopt from the pound rather than breeders. Kamikazi was so ugly he was adorable. He had no hair..... he had messed up teeth..... was as antisocial as you can get when he was at the pound. But the minute I took him out of the pound.... he perked right up... was so loving and smart. He turned into a completely different dog when we passed the threshold of the pound. He was on his last day... in his last few minutes. They were about to close and he would have been killed the next morning and I think he knew that. After a few weeks... his hair grew back... and he was so wonderful. He was the best dog I have ever had. Cinnamon was the same way.... so ugly she was cute.
Both Cinnamon and Kamikazi have since made the journey to the rainbow bridge to wait for me. But I am looking forward to the day we will be reunited and I can love on them once more.
I have always wanted a dog... and a big dog at that, i always thought it would be cool to have a great dane or a mastiff or something like that... but i hoesntly didnt care what breed i got.... so I ended up with an akbash/chow mix.... which aren't as big as the other two.... anyways a friend of my mothers had gotten these puppies Ivy and her sister ffrom another lady who didnt want them anymore... so i jumped on it.... I picked ivy over her sister because she was the first one to come and greet me.... she is the most beautiful dog ever... she has such girlish looks... shes great protection... and she always by my side... So i guess i didnt really pick her..... she picked me!
We picked a mutt - we rescued her before we ever met her so I can't really say we knew her before we picked her. She was a 3mo old lab mix. Not really sure what she was mixed with but something smaller. She is only going to be about 40lbs which we really like. We wanted a medium size dog. I didn't want an extra large dog and my husband hates small yippy dogs so we compromised. We are very happy with her.
I love German Shepherds, that's why I have two. I love their personalities and how they have such strong love & protection for their owners.
We picked up my Maltese and Basset Hound from a shelter. I couldn't help but notice how adorably cute my maltese was..so full of energy and happiness..even behind those bars! He even smiles when he gets in trouble, you can't resist him. My basset just sat their all cute and lonely in the corner, she came up and licked my hand and gave me those incredibly sad looking puppy eyes. They're just so sweet. She was mine from first glance.
Got Noof because my mom has a huge heart for Chocolate Labs. He's the youngest out of all. I just love the breed, they're so friendly and compassionate. I also like that they love to swim.
we have two minature dachshunds. i chose the breed because they are small very loyal, observent, protective and just beautiful. we got harley from a respectable breeder. when i went and got him i was suppose to come home with a red but he was the one i fel in love with. love at first sight.lol. we got sally out of a local bargin trader. she was very small when we got her. we were aware of the fact that she did have a few things wrong with her when we got her, but we have worked with that and she is very healthy now. she is our little mircale dog. i love the both of them so very much.
I have a boston. I didnt pick him he kinda picked me. To be honest I though they were the uglyest dogs in the world untill I saw him. He was all sad and scared and wouldnt come in the house with his sister dad and mom so I picked him up carried him in and that was it. Hes been bymy side ever sence. His owner (my hubbys uncle) didnt like him he though he was dumb but I liked him so he gave him to me. His uncle does not say hes dumb now. now he says "yah rocky was always a smart dog" "I knew you would like him who wouldnt like a smart dog like that" "i could tell how smart he was from the time he was born" "I knew he was the smartest out of the 4"
It cracks me up because when we got him he told us over and over how dumb he was and how Moe was the smart one.
The APBT picked my hubby and I . After owning 5 dogs ,we know how wonderful , goofy , and loving they are.I'll always have it least 1 to 2 Pitties in my life. After all the BSL out there ,it makes me strive harder to help this misunderstood breed of dog .More APBT are pts every day then any other breed of dog.
i saw my first french bulldog on the westminster dog show. hubby was watching it with me. when the little frenchie came out , we both thought it was the cutest thing we had ever laid eyes on. we knew we had to find out about them. we did alot of research and talked to many breeders. when we settled on a breeder, she sent us picks of the cutest little black masked red boy. it was love at first site. we could barely eat or sleep the last couple of days before he was flown to us. when i walked into the airline office, his kennel was on the floor. i bent down , opened the door, and he hopped back and forth like a little bunny rabbit. i was in love. now we have three. all spoiled and totally loved.
