So….I was one of the uneducated pet lovers. I purchased a Beagle…later on referred to as Tipcee….from a Pet store in Woodbridge, NJ called *******…..I had no idea and never heard of a term called Puppy Mills. When I spoke to the sales clerk in this store, they told me how she comes with papers from the ACA and a certificate of pedigree and the name of her Breeder….I had no idea…..where she came from……
So here is my story…..I knew Tipcee was the perfect dog for my family considering her birthday (4/3/04) was on the day before my birthday….(of course many many years later)….She was bowlegged and still is beautiful!!!! They noted on her paperwork that she had Luxating Patella….movement in her kneecap, which will usually tighten up as she builds muscle…..not a big deal….it was love at first sight and we purchased her and took her home……
She is definitely one of the family, she has a big heart, lots of love and an attitude…..just like the rest of us…ha ha!
Two months ago, a pimple/lump was seen under her tongue…..we immediately took her to our vet. The Doctor that we usually see was not in and we saw a different doctor…. and he said it looked like a saliva gland….he gave her meds and sent us home……we returned for a two week check up and now the 1 pimple turned into more lumpy looking things….he asked us to give her another round of meds before having to do more investigation…..we did a recheck one month later and this is where we are…..The Doctor that we usually see was able to get us in and she told us to immediately take my little baby girl to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls…..they did a biopsy and found Tipcee to have Chondro Sarcoma…..this cancer is spreading so fast, it is pushing her teeth out…..according to the doctors at this hospital…there is nothing we can do….they gave her about 1 year to live…..they believe that Tipcee contracted this while she was in her mothers uterus…….and a very good chance that her Mom had this too……So I was thinking…what kind of a breeder would breed puppies knowing this????
Knowing that I had papers on her, I wanted to contact the breeder to see if she knew of Tipcee’s brothers and sisters to contact the owners immediately to hopefully catch it sooner than we did…..this is when it got real ugly for me…….SHE CAME FROM A PUPPY MILL!!!!! What the heck is this all about!!!!! Is this right? Can all of what they say true? Tipcee has an ACA number ….4230183…..From what I understand there is a good chance that these people from ******, Inc….*********….was aware that Tipcee’s mother had this disease and knew that Tipcee and her brothers and sisters would contract this ….but they did nothing…in order to make the money……they are theifts!!!! How could they let me bring this puppy into my life and my 7 year olds sons life for a total of 2 short years knowing that we would open up our hearts and love this dog….just to hear she is going to die in less than 1 year….giving us a total of 3 short years to love Tipcee…..This is a crime and I really want to find out if this is true……because if it is true….I feel that they should have everyone of the dogs/puppies they have in their possession take away….locked them up….and throw away the key…..this is a crime….how dare they knowingly break my family’s heart……and all we have left to do…..is CRY!!!!!!
Thanks for listening and please tell me this is not true?
Uneducated, Tipcees Mom

ACA is a skeazy registry. The papers sorry to say are pretty much worthless, but it sounds good to an unsuspecting owner who doesn't know that there are good and bad registries.
How old is your dog now, and what sort of guarantee did you get?
There's a lady I know of in Quebec currently fighting a mill because her dog died and they replaced it in the one year 'warranty' and the one she got in return had issue after issue. Currently she's in court fighting them..
Thanks for responding...I really feel so stupid....tipcee is now 2 1/2 year old....I did not get warranety paperwork....I really am not looking to replace her or get my money back....I want to spend the rest of my life closing places like this down....do you know of a good place to report a complaint?
ACA is the puppymiller and backyard breeder registry of choice, mostly because the could care less about what you are registering, just as long as your check clears the bank. This is a hard lesson to learn, but you did learn from your mistake.
I am so sorry you had to find out about puppymills this way. It is a disgusting mass of greedy people with no regard for life. Read more and also the address of your puppymill. **************** page 24. Missouri 14th from the top

I know some about dogs can develop Cancers, and some are genetic in form, and others can just "happen" or occur. I would contact the pet store where she came from, the broker that sold your puppy to the pet store, their breeder, and you can even contact the USDA and the state dept of animal health and let them know. It is one thing tohave something happen like this, but I would not breed those dogs again if I were their breeder. Most likely the people that I mentioned will not care, but you can try to give them your information.
OH yes, I forgot to mention that in the first place, your puppy should have been given away for free since she already had problems. I cannot understand why they would try to sell a dog like that, poor baby. Pet Stores ONLY get their puppies from brokers that buy them from the mills. No decent breeder would sell their babies to the pet store. I want to meet and speak with anyone that wants one of our puppies to try to find the puppies the best possible homes. Not to mention I want to make sure that they are cared for correctly, fixed, and I also track our offspring to see how they turn out. You won't be able to shut down puppy mills, but you can share your situation with the people I mentioned above and good luck. Sorry for your situation.
Ummmm...we got Baxter from what at the time we thought was a local breeder....guess what? We got there had him in my arms and asked to see the parents. "They're not here" when I asked more, my attention was divereted. Anyway, when his AKC papers came in....he came from *******. She, as it turns out breeds SOME breeds and brokers others. Anyway fortunately we have not had any health problems with Bax other than allergies, but he is AKC....so it isnt the registry to blame. BTW, hind sight is 20/20 NOW I see all sorts of red flags but at the time we were still greiving our golden passing away 6 weeks before.

I want to ask you all how do you know you are getting a pure breed? I didn't know about the papers being worthless. What should one ask. Now scence i found this beagel on the roed im thinking about getting a younger one. But i want to get the right papers.
I'm new on this site and just looked over the list and I know some of the breeders on the Missouri list and totally agree with some of them but there are a few of them that I do not. I've been to a couple of the kennels and they a great. Not up in cages but in nice size runs heated and cooled buildings to run in to great vet care do not skimp on anything so I hope that is just a list of breeders and not all puppy mills.
so very sorry for what you are going to have to go through in a few months. garden state is an awesome vet hosp though and i would put my faith in them that if there was anything that could be done to save tipcee's life they would certainly make you aware of it. google nopuppymills and you should come ipon a forum much like this one that deals directly with puppymill issues. you may find some useful info there. good luck to you and big hugs to tipcee.
Please, please, say it isn't so! We just got our pomeranian from ****** in Henderson, Nevada and I notice that her "certificate of Pedigree" is from ***** Inc. We shopped all over for 3 years and finally bought from this store because they took such good care of the animals. Animals are visited by vets weekly and we got 3 free vet visits and a 3 year congential warranty. Does anyone have any good news on these people? We've only had our pom a week but she's already one of the family and I'd hate to lose her.
