I would be very, very careful about buying a dog in PA without really investigating it carefully. My state is LOADED with puppymills and backyard breeders.
I looked at the ad. A couple of red flags. Two litters very close together, no mention of any health testing and the name of their other breed (bull terrier) spelled incorrectly. You would think that if someone is breeding they should at least spell the breed correctly.
I checked the AKC website dog lookup - it's free. Neither the dog allegedly a champion (Tucker) is listed nor is the dam registered with AKC.

*whew* Thanks. I don't want to label a place as a puppymill place, you know? I just know from reading on here, that's a place I should be aware of.
She did tell me that she has a contract, but she's never had to enforce it. She offers "buy backs" anytime someone is unable to keep their pups for whatever reason. She said something about their shots and vet checks (but I see that everywhere).
I'll just keep looking. Thank you very much for taking the time to look further :)
I was informed by a very nice lady today that some of you are spreading nasty rumors and inuendos about us and our puppies. Hounds and others who claim to know things should really check things out before they start rumors that could kill sales for others. First let me straighten out a few simple things.. Tucker is an AM CH Chihuahua is registration number is TP18808904 His call name is Tucker but his AKC Name is RAFINA KEIRN OF BREHON. Puppies from his last litter are on the show circuit right now. If you would like the registration numbers for the bitches as well, I will gladly give them to you in private. Yes we had litters really close this time. Yes we breed regularly. and have been for over 35 years. But ANYONE ANYTIME ANYWHERE can visit our house and see our dogs and bitches and see that we ARE NOT A PUPPY MILL. The Amish have spoiled PA for those of us who seriously home breed here, but I'll tell you right now I will put my reputation and my life on the truth of our advertising. As the lady said, we demand a buyback contract so that if you are ever going to sell a pupy that you have purchased from us, we want to opportunity to buy it back. And oh ya! I mispelled terriers in my brand new website that is still under construction.... Sorry about that. Hounds lets see what you are showing or breeding or you just hanging out trying to impress people. How many dogs have you finished? Anyone who would like to have the handlers name that handles our CHi's Write me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will gladly give it to you. Other than that, unless you are sure about what you are saying you had better watch what you write as slander is still somthing I might consider here.

Sorry aabout this but I am fired up!!!! here is an e-mail I received that got me into this forum.
Houndz2000 you need to really get your act together. AKC.ORG cannot and will not allow CALL name searches, and you couldn't have possibly known the bitches name or the registration numbers.
Now read my other response.... then do your research properly, then I demand you place a retraction here, and I have contacted the owners of this web who we do a lot of business with and have demanded that they either monitor this discussion forum for accuracy or eliminate it from this website or they will lose my business and every breeder I know who lists dogs here.
You have received the following from 'Sheila Webber':
Hi. I was just on the discussion forum at www.terrificpets.com where you also happen to have an ad for your puppies. Go to the discussion forum and read the topic about a chi puppy. Someone had been interested in one of your pups until several others there bad mouthed you based on your web-site. I think it's ridiculous that people like you pay money to advertise there and then have to deal with bad mouthing as such on the very same site. Signed- from another fellow breeder who is sick of breeder bashing.

I didn't see anything in the above posts that would be either rumor or innuendo. One person mentioned being concerned and another offered information after doing an AKC lookup with the information provided. If a breed name was spelled incorrectly well, then it was spelled incorrectly. How is any of that slander? Not trying to be sarcastic, just trying to understand the extreme defensive attitude to someone who actually said they were happy with the response from the breeder. Did I miss something?
chman, these are only people's opinions and really should not be taken so seriously. if someone does their reserch properly, they will know how to avoid puppy mills. pebbles is simply being wary of where she gets her puppy from as she has read many horror stories on here. right away some people on here jump to conlusions that a breeder is bad when they have a nice backround for their photographed puppy, more than 2 breeding dogs, or a planned mixed breed. I wouldn't be too worried about your reputation, as according to many people on here, almost every breeder is bad. I know not to listen to everyone's opinions as they are not always right.
I wouldn't worry too much about what is said here, because if you dig through posts and read the threads, you're going to find that there's a bit of a bias against breeders. They're assumed evil from the get go. Some folks assume that if your puppy is sick then you must have gotten it from a puppy mill.
The original poster is simply being cautious in her search, and I'm sure that as a breeder, your best customers are the ones who do their research and know the best questions to ask, and know what they're getting into.
Just do what you're doing, perhaps in the future or on your website make sure that you let potential buyers know that the AKC registration information is available upon request, and you let your customers know everything that you have said here about your home, and offer a referral.
It's clear that you have a lot of love and pride for what you do-your post seems really sincere and I can tell by reading it that you're frustrated, so like I said, you have 35 years of business and referrals to fall back on, trust me, nothing said here could hold a candle to that.
Good luck in your business, and good luck to the original poster in their search.

some people do jump the gun a little on breeders. but i just dont see it in this case. at least not enough to get riled about. if you are a reputable breeder, word gets out and people will look to you when looking for a pup. i really doubt that too much stock is placed on what someone posts on a pet forum when they are looking for a good breeder. they do their own research. they contact the breeder . ask questions. get to know about them. about their dogs. and a good breeder will also check out all perspective buyers. they want to be sure that they are placing their pups in good homes.
the fact that you come on here with guns drawn, makes you look like maybe you do have something to hide. not saying that you do, just that you look like it.
this is just a forum. most people are not here looking for breeders, but rather to seek advice and share their pet stories. so i seriously doubt what little that was said here has affected your breeding business. i do agree with the no breeder bashing rules, but in this incident i really dont see that there has been any of that or any damage being done to your reputation.
Of course this lady is mad and I can fully understand why. Houndz comments on the "red flags" and outright said that neither of the parents were registered with AKC. Not "I couldn't find it" but a point blank statement that they are not registered with AKC as the seller said, and what does that imply?! A liar. Then Pebbies says thanks, she'll keep looking. Therefore a sale was lost right there. Some people on here will believe anything they read here thinking that some of these members just know everything, when indeed they do not. When did Houndz become the official "dog looker upper, I can tell you if this is a good breeder or not"? I looked at the site too and didn't see these red flags. I'm still waiting for that link myself.

why would someone come on a pet forum and ask about breeders in the first place. if they are truly looking for a good one, they would go through the breed parent club first. breed specific rescues usually list good breeders. and sites that advertise puppies for sale . not a pet forum. yes , there are a few breeders on here, BUT they are not allowed to advertise , so what good is it to even ask here in the first place, if not to stir up trouble. and emailing the breeder was just another pot stirring ploy.

I myself live in Delaware, so I am aware of the Pennsylvania puppy mill problem. A warning to the op to be aware of this problem, I can understand, as someone from further away may not have been aware of Pa being a puppy mill state. And maybe some tips to help the op learn how to check out breeders would have been fine too. But what was posted instead was a bit too much due to lack of accuracy.
