Ive read these forums pretty often. and this is my first post. I just recently got a puggle puppy. I have to say, i am SOOO surprised at ppl who post who are completely slamming any breed of dog!!
My whole life, Ive had pets. Growing up, my father bred beagles for hunting and field events and we also adopted dogs from shelters. That being said,Ive had mixed and purebred dogs. WHen i decided MONTHS ago to get a puggle, I was making my decision between them or a beagle. I spoke to ppl I personally knew who had puggles...as well as a few with pugs and relied on my knowledge of beagles to make my decision.
Then I happen apon this forum and some of the posts Ive seen. Speakin as an animal lover...its DISGUSTING to see some of you slam a breed for being mixed.! Pppl like this are exactly the type of idiot pet owners who shouldnt be allowed to have pets. A dog or any pet is an addition to the family... it will love you unconditionally and all it asks for is love and attention in return. Whether its a purebred or a mix of 3 breeds, who cares? JUst love the pet and give it the best life you can....
It isn't about a dog being a mixed breed. It is about greedy people who breed these dogs intentionally, hoping to make money from gullible people who think they are getting something rare or special. Mixed breed dogs are great and make wonderful companions. The shelters and rescues are full of them....puggles, poo dogs, etc. Just don't imply that breeders of these "designer dogs" are responsible or reputable. They aren't. They are in it for the money....period.
i didnt say anything about a breeder at all. and, lets get off our high horse for a second... breeders breed any dog to make money. youre telling me that shelling out thousands for a purbred is somehow more acceptable then paying for a mixbreed?
my bf has a purebred english bulldog. it was a $2000 pup. why is that better? he isnt showing it. most ppl with purebreds arent showing it.
English Bulldogs are a difficult breed to whelp. Because of this, they are more money. They are a hard breed to keep healthy, a lot goes into them. That is why purebreed breeders charge "outrageous" prices. We KNOW our dogs are worth it, and we put more into our breedings.
Random mutts are bred for money. You don't know what you'll get. But they do not hesitate to lie and say "you will get the best of both worlds!"
Oh please, will this ever end... It's not the "breed" its the idea of using fashion to sell and overproduce a dog that doesn't even have a standerd yet. It is not a breed until AKC recognizes it. I personaly have discussed healthy issues on these desighned breeds. MOST of the people who breed these dogs do not test the dogs they breed on. I'm not against the dog, or even the fact they are trying to start a new breed but the fact is t5hat it as not time for a new breed yet, with the serious problem of overpopulation and that these dogs have become a huge trend makes christmas puppies the least of the problems. Which was a big problem before.
ok, well then maybe that should be stated a little more clearly. bc the stuff i read on this forum didnt say that.
and truthfully, if overpopultation is such an issue, then ALL BREEDERS should be held to a limit of how many litters they can produce a year.
on the flip...any animal has a risk of health issues. and MANY pure bred ( as well as mixed) vbreeders are irresponsible. i had a dlamation yeaaaars ago that was deaf. he also had a tendency to get depressed. the more i learned about the breed, the more i foung out about their health issues and how bc of their very strict requirements as show dogs, they were inbred so much that they had all these problems now.
My name is Casey. I have been a true blue boxer fan for nearly 15 years. When my male boxer joey died my whole family was heart broken. I was not going to have dogs ever again. Then I came by this little boxer puppy that was just too much. So much personality..... OHH maybe it was because it was actually an adult "JUG" a jack russell/pug mix . The everlasting boxer pup. That little dog was a treat. I could have bought any level of boxer out there. However I set out to by a jug regardless of the cost. I finally found a litter of "rugrats" pug-rat terrier mix pups. mom was 50/50 dad was 100% pug. The puppies looked as much like boxers as possible.. Now I am the proud owner of "Monkey" a 75/25 pugrat terrier mix. He is happy, healthy, very smart and as agile as a cat. He is everything I had hoped for and I know I will NEVER regret such a purchase. I paid $250.00. The basic cost of whelping such a litter was barely covered. If I could find a female for monkey, I would breed him in a new york second. Not out of greed, but rather wanting such a wonderful mix to go on. I believe boxers have been largely overbred as a whole. Along with many other akc breeds. Monkey is a breath of fresh air around here. Perhaps he won't have to deal cancer at 10 yrs. old too. Maybe this post will bring out those pugrat girls... This is my first post here, so I will post pics later.
Who's gulllible? Don't you think everyone who buys a puggle knows it's mix between a beagle and a pug? Do you really think people who buy one think there's some kind of exotic procedure going on past that?
When I see pictures of puggles and "teddy bear" dogs and some of the other popular mixes it seems part of the appeal is in the appearance of a forever-puppy. When it turns out the way they mean it to, that's pretty much the look you get.
OOps then people with Beauceron's didn't have a purebred dog until Aug 2006-when AKC recognized it. LOL.
Hope that is not the test, because every dog was added at some point. AKC is not that old-- and their standards may have helped some breeds (do what I don't know), but their standards have also hurt some breeds and caused major health issues.
Absolutly, many purebred breeders are not doing the best they can and believe me look at the other posts here about people wanting to breed pures, they are met with the same tone and questioning. They get "bashed" as well. But I do not feel that the disigner breed is a nothing to just say oh, well about. I'm sure your dog is the sweetest thing we all love are dogs and do not discriminate any dog here, pure or mixed..
quote from OP~ Pppl like this are exactly the type of idiot pet owners who shouldnt be allowed to have pets.~
The only idiot I see is the people that pay someone for a mutt!
Breeding dogs are to better the breed not to mix it.
All the dogs I and my children have gotten are from the shelter trying to clean up the mess that puppy mills and BYB make! Buddy (my sons dog) is a wonderful dog that is Newfoundland, retriever mix. Mixes are the outcome from bad breeding and people who are so stupid not to spay or neuter there pet and then sell it.
You could have gotten that dog at the shelter. We didn't pay anyone to line there bloody pockets! But I gave the shelter 1000.00 for each dog to help support the homeless pets.
Don't come on to this forum and brag how you bought a designer dog. You will not get any support! Then you think we are disgusting!
Rocco's mom was the breeder that you bought your pup from rolling in cash from all the money she or he makes from from breeding unhealthy dogs. My guess was most likly no since not eveyone who breeds makes loads of cash Did you go to a barn with hundreds of dogs lined up and buy your pup from some dishonest scum bag. Likley not right there are good honest people that do breed healthy happy pups even thought alot of you people won't open your mind or your heart like Rocco's mom did to find out.
<<<<It is not a breed until AKC recognizes it.>>>>>
Thank you Alicat for responding to this, but let me expand...
The breed of dog I have, love, and own is VERY rare and are JUST becoming recognized by the AKC now, there are other ligitimt registries, the United KC, Canadian KC, American Rare Breed Assoc., and the good ol' AKC.
Another example of a newbie coming here with their panties in a bunch going on a rant over posts that they obviously didnt take the time to read thoroughly.
Go back, read slower. No one aid it was horrible to own a mix, no one said mixes were bad. I dont even see a problem paying a modest fee for a mixed breed IF the puppy has been vet checked, shots, wormed, etc. Of course if they give the care they should recover some of the costs.
Its the so-called breeders who only started breeding these mixes after seeing the craze over them and thinking...WOW, their popular, I must get in on that....next thing you know, mixe are being advertised and sold for $1,000 +
Sorry guys I'm just getting into all the leagal stuff in the states.. Here in sweden a breed is not recognized as a breed until they go thruogh SKK... But I do believe that you can not sh0ow a dog unless he is recognized as a breed somewhere... so I'm not that far of am I ??
