just to let you know if you say the words home remodies everyone will start jumping down your throte(SP?)!!!
I found this out the hard way! on here there's a lot of vet freaks on. and they don't believe in home remidies.
but just to let you know the best home remidie tha I know is that when ever your dog has worn out pads on the bottom of his/her feet and they aren't bleeding then rub on some VICKS!!! I found out that it works. it also works on humans also. if you have athlets foot or anything like that then just rub it on there everynight and it will go away. if you want to know anymore home remidies then just let me know.
I know alot of them I ask my family members and I also look on the internet. the internet is a good source for them. but be careful some of them can do more damage then good.
my e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org
feel free to e-mail me and I could help you find out what you need to know.
i am the only true "animal person" in my family therefore i get my info from books books and more books ( i also love to read) Some of the books i have bought are: Shelter Dogs Ultimate Dog Care K.I.S.S Guide to Living With A Dog Planet Dog Doglopedia
We jumped down her throat because she was suggesting her aunt's 'home remedy' for somethign like hookworms or heartworms instead of taking the dog to the vet. Pinky Girl feel free to refresh my memory, it was something I considered crazy compared to taking your dog to a vet.
There are some home remedies that work, using chlorotrimate (sp) to treat yeast infections in ears, for example.... but worms are very serious, and some worms are deadly.
If recommending people take their pet to the veterinarian for health problems and injuries makes me a 'vet freak', so be it. I would rather the help of a trained professional than taking the recommendations of someone's "Aunt Bertha" or whoever. Some home remedies are not only bad, they're deadly. FOr instance, bathing a dog in used motor oil to treat mange.
As far as where I learned what I know? Some stuff I know through experience, some stuff I learned from others, some things I learned from school (I was in Auburn University's pre-vet program) and some stuff interested me enough that I went and looked it up myself.
And one "home remedy" is not what Merico is talking about, and I doubt she wants to be emailing you for advice because you need to learn how to help yourself and worry about your own dog, before instructing others on themselves.
I learned a lot from going to school and work. Then just being involved in the breed for a long time I've heard a lot from different people. My breeder has taught me a ton of stuff you can't just read and understand it. I also read a ton of books and research on the net. You can find a lot of homeopathic information by googling it.
basset lover what do you mean by that is only one of the home remidies thatI sugested? I only posted one. but I got pretty muched attacked my yall because of that. but I didn't mean that when I said "something as little as worms" I do relize that they can kill your dog and that they can damage them severly.
I am sorry for that an now on I won't post things like that. K?
now mabey somethings are more drastic then others. but some home remidies are good and they do work. and just so that yall know tobacco isn't somthing that will kill you by just digesting it because my grandpa chews and when he's in a store and he can't spit he'll swallow it ( grose huh?) but he's been doing that ever since I was born 17 years ago. and he's still breathing.
just so that yall know tobacco isn't somthing that will kill you by just digesting it --------------------------------------------- Just because your grandfather 'ingested' it (can anyone say stomache ulcer?) does not make it safe for pets. People can eat chocolate, yet it is poisonous to dogs. Same goes with the tobacco.
Please think before posting things that can hurt someones pet.
Sorry there sweetie...school here too. Learned a lot from some of y'all. Home remedy...well if I have a dog that is vomiting I fast for 24 hours then give a 50/50 cottage cheese and white rice mixture. I start with a tablespoon or so and increase if no more vomit.
I am a psycho take your dog to the vet. There are too many things that can look not so serious to you but can be very serious. I would much rather pay the office visit than have my pet die due to my stupidity.
I have gathered info from many places. I worked at one of our SPCA's for a couple of years, I worked for a veterinarian for several years, friends that are still techs, I once dated a divorced guy whose wife (a vet tech) had been married to a veterinarian before him and she had a lot of the vet's books, left them behind and I gladly asked if I could have them! I also have a vet that is more than happy to answer my questions about things that I may want to learn about. You don't normally find very detailed books in a regular bookstore. The kind of books one would need in college is the type you want to get hold of. My friend- a tech- gave me her books from college and they are great. Internet is great too, but make sure the info is from a reliable source. Some universities have great stuff posted online.
One of my favorites- use the "disease search" box in the middle, under the circle pic:
