I thought the first post would be from you BL!! :-) Unfortunately I am not too familiar with them but I am excited to have this section to learn more about them! The only experience I have had with a horse was when I went horseback riding in W. Virginia while I went white water rafting and it was a little scary the first time!!
Never went white water rafting with my horses, lol. Used to horse bike riding, as opposed to horse back riding. In my early high school years, I put a lot of miles on my horses and my bf would tag along on his 10 speed.
Right at the moment I own 5 horses and have no. 6 on approval. I have a b&w paint percheron cross gelding (leaving, too much horse for granny), an appendix dun gelding (rising 3), a black morgan mare, a grey quarter cross mare, a sorrel sabino arab stud colt (rising 2 and soon to be a gelding) and his mom, also a sorrel sabino (on approval, but I think leaving).
I also take care of my best buddy's 3 mares, a liver chestnut snowflake Appaloosa, a sorrel Quarterhorse, and a blue eyed bay pinto mare of unknown heritage.
I rode the pinto mare yesterday, but it is ugly, windy and cold here today so I'm not sure I will get out today.
I have a few quarter horses but my favorite as far as looks has always been a grey dappled Andalusian. At this stage of my life the horses are just pleasure horses in the back yard but in my younger days I rode rough stock and did a little calf ropeing.
I had a horse up until a year ago. I had her put down due to neurological problems. I am hoping to be able to save up to buy another. I use to ride hunter jumper till an accident, now my family insist that if I must ride it should only be trails or maybe dressage. Here are a few picks. Romy, the horse I owned taking a role in the sun.
Oh before you ask why Romy is so skinny, she was a rescue horse. She came to Ontario from the states with a shipment of over 25 horses. All in bad shape from abuse. Romy use to be a race horse and then passed on to someone who treated her badly. I live in Montreal so I had to go to Toronto to see her. The first time I set eyes on her I knew I wanted her. I skimped and saved to buy her. I made several trips out to see her until I could have her shipped to Montreal. I had her on light training of just lunge work to get back some muscle. She seemed to be doing well the first 5 months, but then things started going down hill. After repeat visits from the vet I took her to a horse hospital to be looked at. After tests it was decided that a blow to her neck some time ago damaged the nerves. So the one time that she fell when I had her, slipped on ice, aggravated it and caused it to progress. She had no control over her hind end, and a few hyper sensitive spots on her body as well as no feeling in others. I am sad she had to be put down, but would do it all over again if given the choice of buying her or not. She had a few happy months of love out of years with beatings. I did the best I could for her, I know she was happy in the end. Anyway just wanted to let you know why she looks so poorly, although 100 times better than when I got her.
I was raised on a small horse farm, I think the most we ever had at one time was 12. I also worked for several different barns (feeding, exercising and stall cleaning) when I was in high school.
We didn't have a ton of money, so I only got to show open at the 4-H and open show level until college and then I showed for a few seasons on the Lake Michigan Hunter Jumper circuit shows.
My favorites are throughbreds, arabs, quarter horses, paints, and appaloosas.
Right now my son has a mini/sheltand cross that I am trying to sell before spring and get him something bigger.
My daughter has a very nice western pleasure Appaloosa. My mother has my old show quarter horse who is now in his mid- twenties. My sister has a throughbred. Sadly, I gave away my paint mare last fall to a very good home to one of the 4-H families I know. She was 20 and could only be used for trails because she went blind in one eye. I had only ridden her twice last year.
It is the first time in my life that I have been with out a horse and really it hurts my heart. My husband says I can get another one in the spring. We need to get a fence and lean-to up, and I plan on boarding some where with an indoor arena from Nov-March. I swear you may as well not own horses in Michigan during the winter with out an indoor arena.
I think my next horse will be a throughbred mare, since I want to get in to english again.
Boxers are like cookies you can't have just one :)
i absolutely love horses. I do hunter jumping but don't have a horse. i want a horse so bad I also do dressage it isn't my favorite cause i love 2 jump. i ride all kinds of horses, drafts, quarter horses, ponies, icelandic ponies, thouroghbreds and more. Does anyone else ride horses?
Have to ask, what are gaited Baroque? Love the thought of a gaited horse, a friend has Foxtrotters so I get my first chance to ride one in the spring. Well sort of, the Pinto we have here does have a running walk.
What breed/s do you have, and what do you do with them?
I breed hunter/jumpers for people of all ages.one stallion is a TB,other is a Dutch Warmblood, and my little guy is a Welsh Cob section B.The mares are mostly in training, but the rest are in my breeding program. My hubby & I are REALLY busy.(The bay horse in my little pic,is my Welsh Cob Section B Stallion,in the pic he looks fat but really is not)He is so nice!
