Can anyone please tell me about any experiences that you may have had with a dog and prolapsed rectum? We have had the surgery for our Boston Terrier and she had her stitches taken out last week and her rectum has fallen out again today. We are carrying her back in the morning to the vet but I just am open to any advice that anyone can give. Each time we carry her it is costing around $300. We have been giving her canned food and we have had her on Metamucil. Please help! Thanks!
After all these years, how did your boston terrier do from the prolapse? Reason Im asking is because I have an english bulldog 11 week old male that just had this happen to and Ive never experienced it before. The vet tucked it back in place, gave a shot of anti imflamitory and 2 types of antibiotic pills to take for a week. But the rectum popped back out only after 12 hours. Did fecal exams (I have my puppies de wormed regularly starting at age 7 weeks).. fecal came back negative of any parasites, ghiardia, etc... so Dr. has assumed the prolapse is due to the chronic diahrea (sp?) this puppy seems to experience. He strains to poop but his stools are loose anyway. Checked for blockage, none. So now, today, hes getting the surgery to stitch back in place (but im wondering whats to stop it later?). Trying to treat the loose stools first, during stitching and medications hoping after the stitches come out his stools are normal and shud be no more prolapse. Vet seems to diagnose as "irritable bowel syndrome"? I know bulldogs have sensitive tummies, and mine eat a premium food with no corn (corn allergies are nasty). They eat Natures Recipe puppy lamb/rice. Im just wondering about long term outlook and was reaching out to anybody whose had to deal with repeats of this over the years and how did the puppy/dog do?
