High school graduation is coming up soon and I was wondering what a good gift for the graduate would be. I don't remember what I received when I graduated. (too long ago.) Anyway, I would like to make a gift basket of some sort, but have NO idea what to put in it. Don't care if it is fun, useful whatever, just throw some ideas my way. I know the kids would like to just have the money, but I want something to help them get started in life or if they are going off to college. I would really appreciate the help.
This is just my opinion and I understand people tend to shy away from monetary gifts as they aren't as personal, but when I graduated from high school, the monetary gifts provided a great foundation. I was able to start my checking account for school in the fall. Granted, I used some for a mini summer vacation, but once I got to school in Florida, I had a nice savings that lasted quite a while.
With that being said, I'm into little tokens. I loved all of my stuffies that had my graduation year on them. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Do you know the types of things the future grad is into? Music...art...etc? Do you know if they have college plans?
I have NO idea what he is into. It is our Dr.s son (we go to the same church too) that is graduating so I am sure he will end up with alot of money so I wanted to go another route. I was thinking about $20-25.00 range somewhere through there. Might go higher if I needed, but that was a place to start. Thanks!!
As the parent of a college student, things for a dorm or an apartment are nice and not always expensive. Gift cards are welcome either from a department store, phone cards, etc....Cash doesn't seem to personal, but it is really useful for their checking accounts, etc.....
I like him a lot better than I like most people. To you he's a dog. TO me he's an adopted son who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly. I have no problem with any of these. <
I am not sure if all universities do this, but my sister's college has funds that parents or whoever can add money to. They use a credit card to purchase things on campus like books, notebooks, sweatshirts, food, etc. Money does seem impersonal, but being in college myself, I would prefer cash over most other gifts.
Just wanted to add, if you're thinking of going the gift card route, perhaps look into the visa gift card. Since you aren't too sure of his interests, it would be easier for him to shop in stores of his choice.
I would go with the Visa giftcard or i would make a basket and put comfy pj pants and candy in it...everyone likes candy...and maybe like 10-15 dollars with the basket..Thats what i would want anyway... Bethani
sence its a guy here is my idea Sponge bob jammer bottoms, A bag of jolly ranchers, a pack of soda or energy drinks, and a pack of breathemnts. Toss it all in a gift bag staple it shut and leave a note saying dont open untill college.
The drinks will help him stay up for exams, jammer bottoms just rock, I dont know anyone whodoes not love jollyranchers, and the breathments will be great if he forgets to brush. he will rember that bag for the rest of his life.
I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame I'd even cut my hair and change my name
When my kids graduated they got tons of towels. Some where OK but they got over two dozen! Bed sheets for the dorm beds are good, they seem not to bring them home to wash that often. I remember my daughter got Victoria secret lotion and she loved it because she couldn't afford really nice lotion in collage, LOL.
My sis makes up a basket of first aid stuff. Band aids, scissors, aspirin, stuff like that. It was loaded with everything you could need, all the way to anti itch cream. They both still have those tots marked first aid. I thought that was nice.
A Laundry basket works to make your gift basket in for larger items.
I would go with a gift. the thing about $$$, while it is nice, it says exactly how much you gave. a gift you can make look nicer than it is! I suggest a hangover kit! LMAO, some coffee, some tylenol, maybe go to the liquor store and see what they have for hangovers. I have seen some pills before. some barf bags, ear plugs, a eye mask. some powdered gatoraid. and even a booklet with some type of info, like how to avoid a hangover, or why over excesive drinking is dangerous. too soothe your own conscience.
Say I was thinking about this and wanted to share that phone cards are only good if they don't have a cell phone. I still have a ton of them in my desk drawer because the kids have a cell. I myself; to lazy to use them or forget! I wonder if they are still good after 5 years????
The laundry baskets a good one, with one of those pop up hampers, quarters, and soap. My sister in law sent me this and it was the best present, well the only one I remember lol. Not sure for a guy but maybe??? Gift Certificates work to like block buster or best buy, guys love movies and all that.
