My husband wants a Boston Terrier puppy and I want a Siamese kitten. Do you think it would be wise to raise these two together, or is it a bad idea? I'm thinking if we got them both at the same time, maybe they would get along good. Anyone raised a kitten and puppy together?
I have 4 cats along with 4 dogs - 2 of the dogs were puppies with adult cats around and the other 2 dogs were older (1 year or two)Anyways, the cats have a place in the house where they can get away from the dogs if they want otherwise the cats will eat along side of the dogs sometimes. The cats will hit the dogs, hiss etc. I do have 3 Siberian Huskies and a German Shepherd - the 2 of the 3 huskies have grown up with the cats so they are used to them around the house. Once in awhile the dogs will chase the cats - but the cats just leave the area when they do that.
They will get along just fine. Especially when they are young. I have had dogs and cats all my life. I was very lucky growing up, that my family were animal people. Never had an issue!! They will just be scared at first, but within a few days, they will be the best of buds. Scared just because the kitten has never seen a dog, or vis versa. They will play, sleep, eat and love each other. Funny story, I actually had a cat, that wandered the neighborhood. When he would instigate trouble, he would run back to the fenced yard. Hop the fence, and sit inside waiting........the other cat would jump the fence and land in the yard. The dog would come running to chase the intruder out. My cat would just sit there pretty as a picture, and I swear in his head, he was going na, na, na, na, na and smirking. He just knew his big brother would take care of him. Go for it, you will be glad you did.
PLD. I breed Bostons, and I also have quite a few cats. I think you have the right idea to get both at the same time, or near the same, Boston puppies are pretty playful, just like most pups, but I did buy a stud who was raised in a kennel and had never seen a cat. At first he was really bad with them, but now he tolerates them, just is'nt affectionate with them, like the ones who were raised with cats.
