For about 4 hours now bentleys $enis has been sticking out not far but about a 1/2 inch, he wasnt doing anyting to get it to come out not that i know of anyways. lol He was napping when i noticed it and i did call my vets office which was closed but i called the emergency number and talked to the on call vet, she said to use a water based something but basically ky jelly and to pull back on the sheth and it should go back in- Ok done this and it still isnt going back in all the way, it doesnt look swollon at all. I dont know if this makes a differnce or could be the cause but he just went to the groomers last night for a hair cut and wash- the vet thought maybe the shampoo dried him out or something. To me it looks like its to dry to go back in, it like rolls the skin around the sheth i guess is what the vet called it. but i did put water , didnt work and even ky and it hasnt helped. the vet siad if it doesnt go in then he will need to be seen. My sisters puppy had this happen gosh months ago but his was all the way out and she ended up taking him to the vet and he had to have surgery to get it to go back in..ughh
any one know what i can do? really it just looks dry and when he trys to get it to go in the skin rolls down with it, no he doesnt have any hair down there that would be stoping it, he jsut got shaved. he wasnt humping or doing anything like that to get it to come out so i dont know what to do or think.
Should i give him a cold bath? to wet it more? should i try lotion or somethng to lubracaite it? any one have any ideas or what i can use or do to help my lil guy out i would appreciate it.
My 11yr old has started having his hang out when he is excited about visitors or a walk or dinner for the past few years. We normally just ignore him, calm him down and it goes back on its own eventually. Horses do the same sometimes when they are relaxed, so I never thought it could be a medical issue.
Not trying to be funny here but this is nothing to play around with. If the dog's $enis dries it is prone to getting nasty infections. Even if you can't get it lubricated enough to go back in you must keep it moist. Any drying or cracking can cause such severe infection he could need emergency surgery to remove it. If it does not go back in get him to the vet. Sometimes the opening is too narrow and a small bit of irritation, swelling, or dryness is all it takes to cause it to be stuck outside of the prepuce (where it should be). If the vet can't get it to go back in he may need a very small incision made to enlarge the opening. Usually a male dog will let a bit "hang out" when relaxed but you indicate it looks dry which is serious. Sometimes something as small as a loose piece of hair can get stuck in there and prevent it from going back in.
