my 5 wk old puppy eats way to fast. hjow do tou slow them down ? i have tried putting down 1 piece at a time but she still eats it fast. you can't put entire bowl down she choakes... i have tried putting large rocks in her food but that doesn't work either. she picks the food out around it. the only way she eats slow is dry food... help !!!!!!!!!!
You might want to try the Brake Fast bowl. My puppy was like this when I first got him and he is just starting to slow down now at 9 months. Me and my BF would joke that he was a "Food Whore". Here's the link to the Brake Fast Food Bowl:
I sure hope there is a really really good reason that baby is not with his Mom and siblings. Take him to the vet and have him checked, not sure how big he is, but try an elevated bowl, that helped mine. Use dry kibble as has been suggested. Good luck that is really a very young baby. Keep your eyes on him, he may need special care.
I have 2 young dogs, 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 months old, and they both eat too fast and they only get dry food. When they are eating I will casually put my hand between them and their food while using a calm "slow down" command and it seems to be working. Neither one of them has any food aggression or this wouldn't be an option. But I have gotten Cayson to the point that I can just say slow down and he will stop eating, sit down and look at me. After a minute or so I give the release command and he goes back to eating. Now I still have to tell him this at least 3 times when he's eating, but he is getting better. Sasha on the other hand does better on her own, she actually chews her food, but she does not understand what the command means yet although she's learning. I think Cayson just swallows it whole. I'm hoping the problem will eventually stop and they will eat normally soon.
