We'll Angel's health problems are just getting worse, because now she is not eating. The only things she will eat is these dog bones she has loved her whole life. She has lost 4 pounds, i can count every bone in her body it's disgusting! At first me and my mom were thinking she was just not hungry the first day, but then it turned into everyday, so we bought all kinds of natural choice canned foods, and she was not interested in any of them! THis was very odd that she didn't like the canned foods, because a month ago i had one can of it and she gobbled it up and wanted more. We have been getting food down her throat everyday and water, but she has been bafing, and getting skinnier. WE called the vet their appointments were booked for the day, and so we have an appointment tommorow early morning. My mom is wondering wether or not to do blood tests again since she was tested healthy two and half months ago. Is it possible for a dog to get a disease that fast?
What should we have done on my dog to see whats wrong with her? Heres what my mom says she wants to do: blood tests x-ray on her tummy
She already is vaccinated and doesn't have fleas.
Angel's symptoms: -extreme hairloss -shaking(her body is like vibrating hard) -fast heart beat(i put my hand on her chest and it was fast) -decreased hunger -tired -skinny does anything go with these symptoms? -increased urination -increased water intake (sometimes) -barfing up practically everything my parents said if she has some severe disease thats going to cost a lot of money like 5,000 or more, they aren't going to follow through with the treatment. But that doesn't mean i'm with them on that, i will do anything to raise money and earn money to pay for health stuff to keep her alive. I definalty can not imagine a life without her! Do you guys think she is going to die? I'm really scared and we have just taken her to the vet so many times already but no awnser to her problems, it really sucks!
Please say many prayers for Angel that her health problems are affodable and easy to work with. I wonder if she has cushings disease or kidney disease.
when she barfs the food does not looke digested at all!
Cushing's dogs usually have increased hunger, not decreased. I too would wonder about kidney disease, but I'm no vet. I say definitely get the tests done that your vet recommends to at least find out what is going on and then make your decisions from there. I did have a very young dog once with kidney failure and and we chose to try and save her. She went to the University of Pa. and did all that was recommended and in the end she still died. If I could have done it all over again I would have not put her thru all that because I have no doubt in my mind that she was suffering. I hope that what ever is wrong with your dog is something that can be easily treated. Good luck. Please come back and let us know what the vet says.
thanks, i will let you know what happens! we did get Angel this canned food water vanilla flavored nutrients stuff, it's called dog sure and we got it at petsmart in the medicine isle. Angel is actually eating this stuff, it looks and smells like a child's pediasure drink, the vanilla kind! Anyways, this drink is supposed to add many nutrients to your dog and fill them up and give them more energy. It has some sugars in it, but not to much! It seems to be working, it is for dogs that are sick to their stomach and not eating. She seems a little more active after eating that stuff. It was pretty expesive for that little can, $8, which means it must work good. It's sitting in her stomach so far! I defiantly want to move Angel over to natural choice dry dog food after this, she doesn't seem to be liking proplan very much from the start. The vet reccomended it, but Angel doesn't seem to be interested in it the past month or so.
increased water intake and frequent urination sounds like diabetic to me but it's hard to say I'm no vet but in diabetic dogs they don't vomit and shake and lose there appetite sleep all the time that sounds like pancreatitis almost but let us know what the vet says
ok, we just got back from the vet about 40 minutes ago! Here what the vet thinks, he said it may be a thyroid problem, adrenal, or possibly diabetic. He said he doubts she has diabeties because that does not go with all her symptoms, but he also said we could be dealing with two or three healthy problems at the same time, so you never know. He took some blood from her and is going to have blood test done on her at a lab and compare them to whats changed with her last octobers blood tests as well. He said other than that, she is not dehydrated and seems to be doing ok, he told us to keep her on the dog sure formula. We are going back to the vet in the afternoon so he can test her pee. We accidently had her pee right before she went into the vets office, so she had nothing in her system. So everything he is considering that she might have will all require medications, mainly i hope she does not have dieabeties. If she has a thyroid problem and it will only require medicines, then i guess it's nothing to panic about. If her blood tests still come back clear, then he will consider other possibilties to find out what she has. I just hope it's nothing surgical, keeping her over night or taking her to some special university. We get the blood results back tommorow, i'm not to concerned at the moment he made it seem like it's nothing horrifying that we need to worry about. I have faith that she will be ok, please say prayers for my baby! :)
oh and i almost forgot, someone in the vets office had a huge newborn litter of irish setters! They were adorable and all of them were a light brown color, but it sounds like a few of them are having bad health problems :( I hope the pups will be ok!
I'm not postitive about this but I'd check the ingredients on pediasure to use instead of dogsure if they're close just because it is cheaper but again I don't even know how similar they are just know that people use pedilyte when their dogs are sick. I hope Angel gets better soon!
I think i'll better keep her on the dog sure, thats a good idea though. It's just that the vet told us to keep her on dog sure until he tells us other wise and he will help us pick out the proper food for her. My mom also is nervous to change foods up on her now, since we can't risk her barfing anymore, she is way too skinny. My main focus is getting the proper nutrients into her so she doesn't starve herself to death, we have a tube to use for if she would stop eating again. It's a miny syringe tube. Thanks everyone! I'll keep you posted on her health. I'll have to take pictures of Angel's baldness, it's pretty sad!
We picked angel up at 5:00 after a long day at the vets. I took pictures, she looks a little more alive. I'm taking before and after pictures to see how better her health looks in the pictures, then i'll post them. She is sleeping with me in the guest room tonight, i'm going to wake up in the middle of the night to take her potty and get more fluids in her. She still has the I.V needle atached to her and it is wrapped up in blue bandage. She has been licking her paw and throwing it at me, trying to tell me to take it off, makes me want to cry, i feel so bad. she is not hooked up to fluids until she gets back to the vet tommorow. My mom ordered innova dog food for her and many supplements for better health, every thing is a 100% organic and we specially ordered it off a holistic dog food and organic supplements website, so it should be good. Angel has been trying to take the I.V thing off, poor thing. I don't know what it loks like, since it's bandaged. Her other arm was shaved and it had red bruised marks running up her arm, i guess they tried a needle on that arm, does that normally happen. It's like a bloody looking bruised under neath her skin, she let me touch it.
