I had my dog nuetered in January. The vet said approximately 6 wks until the stitches dissolve. They don't look like they have even started dissolving. There is no swelling, redness, or tenderness. In fact, Buster doesn't even seem to notice they are there. Should I be concerned? I am calling the vet Monday but wanted some opinions before I do.
if they are disolvable stitches then sometimes it can take up to 3 months for them to dissappear completly. it is also common to feel a knot near one or both ends of the incision for several months after the surgery. as long as the incision is not red or inflammed he should be fine.
After having my dobe's ears cropped last year, some of the dissolvable stitches were dangling there for over three months. Some of them were half-dissolved, and i just gave them a little pull, and they slid right out. I don't know if I would attempt this in the genital area post-neutering. His ears were already healed, and most were already out but 5 or 6, and I knew they only needed a tiny tug to get them out. They should fall out eventually, but I couldn't stand seeing dangling stitches from my dog's ears.
