so i have been in my new house for a couple months now. and the bathroom is all new stuff but the colors are orange and brown and my boyfriend said i can do whatever colors i want. i also want it to have a theme. i am new at this and have no idea were to go with it. i want it to be bright but not to bright and matching i was thinking like a beach theme or a fish theme an angel theme i really am having a hard time.
Idea #1 watch some HGTV shows- On the shows where they are helping somebody fix up to sell a house, if they re-do a bathroom, they are usually undoing a "theme" to make it more spa like for a neutral effect but the themes are nice if you're not trying to sell. Check out the HGTV website too. Idea #2 get the JC Penney catalog or go to Kohl's and look at the coordinated sets. Don't buy a whole set or you'll be spending a ton of money. Just use the ideas. Both my bathrooms are non-themed, just coordinated now. But I have done a beach theme in my past life. Start with picking out a great shower curtain and then build out the accessories from there. I had a light house shower curtain with blues and lavenders and white in it and then candle holders in the shape of seashells and stuff like that. And towels in solid colors that were found in the shower curtain. You just want to make sure that you have some solid colors too. Don't go overboard on the theme items.
I like bathrooms modern, neutral, cool and soothing in color tones. Think of natural stones, deep green foliage and lots of light.
A great idea for privacy, but light in a bathroom in a not so private location, is either spray on frost or the kind you peel and place. Neither is permanant and they still allow light in.
A cheap way to bring your bathroom up to date, is change out all the fixtures so they match. It will cost about a hundred bucks, but when they are all the same, it ties it together nicely. Like a nickel, chrome or ivory finish for your faucets, towel holders and knobs.
Sometimes you can get tile or counter tops cheap if you ask if they have anything in the back that has been laying around for a while. Just collect samples of what you like so you can see how it will all fit together.
Also, I love our new extension for our shower curtain. It slightly curves outward for elbow room
i love those shows on HGTV and the flip houses show and all them. i am starting this week to look around i am excited i am also thinking about the bowls for a sink. i have never seen one other then in a picture.
I happen to love the fish theme. My daughter's bathroom is done with fish theme. The walls are blue, fish shower curtain, I found fish pictures with nickel fixtures....I have a plastic fish tank with fake fish on the toilet...I put another fish bowl with sand and hake fish on the counter...They love the bathroom. I get so many comments on it...Have fun and express yourself..remember, paint covers up...if you don't like that color pick another..
You must be having so much fun with the decorating. I have 2 bathrooms and I have re-painted and changed the accessories in each of them twice in the five years since I bought my place. I love to re-do things and I love painting so the bathrooms are the easiest and the least expensive to re-do. Now I'm considering ceramic tile and a new countertop in the full bath. I'm never quite done.
it is so much fun i have three rooms that we are not using that we need to do somthing too, were making a bar in the kitchin and need to get more curtains plus finish the basement and change some colors they previouse owners like yellows and lime green. not my taste but it is so much fun i cant wait to get a new camera charger so i can take pictures!!!
Ok, so on 5/7 I was just talking about how I might re-do one more thing in my condo bathroom and now it's 5/29 and I just bought a new house instead. Now I get to redo 2 more bathrooms!! And paint every single room in the house because the owner had completely different taste in colors. The dining room is sponge painted in shades of fuschia pink. ARGH! (but at least I don't have to strip any stupid wallpaper this time) I wasn't even thinking of moving and then the perfect little house with a nice fenced yard for my dog came along and WHAM! I bought a house and sold my condo within a week. I think maybe this was all ilovemybug's fault. I was jealous that she gets to redecorate stuff. LOL
yeah it is so much fun. i cant wait for my second house.
so the bathroom is dolphins next we need to get rid of the yellow kitchen!. there is so much to be done we still have three empty rooms we need some flowers out side and our room wall color is a mint green.. but im excited to finish the basmment next because i get to build a bar!! i cant wait the house is really comming along. we just built this area with cinder blocks for a chiminaha ( i cant spell it) and a grill its a really nice place :)
well have fun decorating! it is really fun and the best time to buy a house since the markets down. ConGraTs
lovebug, I personally have always wanted a 'tropical paradise' themed bathroom, with a color scheme that looks like it's from a perfume add or something. Cool blues, tropical punchy pinks, fresh greens, and earthy sandy tans. Something to make me feel like I'm on vacation in a romantic tropical paradise every time I take a bath. Aaaaaaah!
I like most cats better than I like most people. I'll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter.
yah thats wicked pretty the only. my bathroom is kind of small but the walls are blue the and the tiles are light blue so the only thing i could think of it ocean the shower curtain looks really nice it has dolphins and fish its like an under water theme. its really cool. Kitchen next.. YAY!
hey Pope!-i know that one pic is marilyn monroe are the others as well or someone else? btw-it is nice looking-my bathroom has the touch of a bottomless clothes basket.-It needs a makeover. (i will spare you the pictures)
The kitchen in the place we are renting right now, is stuck in the 70's. I am in wood paneling hell. The counter tops remind me of munster cheese... just not good I guess that color orange distracts the eye from the linoleum nightmare of a floor if I were thinking of the glass half full It pains me daily. But we love our landlord, he doesn't charge much monthly for Baltimore and he loves all of our pets.
You wouldn't be interested in remodeling our home when your done? Anyway-this is off subject, but Rita Hayworth was in "Strawberry Blonde" with James Cagney(one of my favs)and Olivia Dhavilland(spelling?)-WONDERFUL movie!
