Hi all, I just got a Chinchilla. She was abandoned at a strip mall in a box. A friend brought her to me. I had them years ago, and there is alot of new info. She has only one ear (born that way), and my vet thinks she is about 12wks old. I got her a 3level cage, chin food, grass hay to mix with timothy, a neat hay ball. She has a wheel and hammock, she loves the hammock. She tends to like a water bowl better then the bottle. I got lava stones for her to chew on. She was very stressed out when I got her, and I didn't think she was going to make it. She is now comming to me for her nightime raisen. I am going to order her a chin-chiller since I keep my house on the warm side. Anything else I need or should do. She is really sweet, one of the best I have ever met.
Make a dust bath available a few times each week. Mine also like to nibble a few sunflower seeds, raisins or peanuts (unsalted and still in the shell) as a treat. If you have access to it they also love shredding the leaves off a small stalk of bamboo.
I dont know if I can find the bamboo, but I will try. She sat still last night and let me scratch her behind the ears. She is just sooo friendly, hard to belive after what she went through. Anyone who says you can't buy love has never had a pet lol
