Hi. I need some help... !! My Molly was just spayed last Thursday. She's going to be 7 months this week. The surgery went well, she seems to be healing very well, and after a couple of days of recovery, she is finally back to her normal energy level (she was a little quiet the past couple of days). However, ss I feared, she started having diarrhea. A couple of friends who had their puppies spayed in the last two or three months told me that they had experienced parasite-related diarrhea following their surgeries, and their vets said it was due to the stress put on the little bodies. So I suspected we'd have a case of that too. Molly actually had a bout of coccidia about a month ago (runny stool, mucus and blood). But after a 10 day course of medication she was finally ok! When I picked her up Friday, the vet tech did mention that she had diarrhea that day. She came home, and had one diarrhea BM (it was explosive, and mucusy), but then she had NORMAL poo yesterday morning, yesterday evening, and this morning. I was so happy. But it didn't last... this morning she pooped three times, and two of those were strange stools... very mucusy, no blood, but I saw little tiny white round things in it. The last poop, about 4 hours ago, was almost ALL mucus; it came out very fast, and she had gas. She has pooped way too much for a normal day. She's on rice and ground beef again, which worked for us the last time. I'm planning on going back to the vet tomorrow, but would like to know if anyone has experienced this. The white little things are a first and are freaking me out; i'm not sure if that's a parasite, or a worm we're dealing with! And I don't know why this would have happened after her surgery. One last note: friday night and saturday she seemed to have some discomfort when going potty, which the vet said was ok, as things may feel tender post-surgery. I did notice that yesterday she pooped only little bits, not her usual amount; i'm just speculating here, but could she have been holding it to avoid pain, and could that have contributed to the diarrhea??
I can't answer all your questions but i would take a stool sample to the vet and have it checked out. You can also give her a little sweet potato or pumkin to help harden her stool, and a little plan yogurt to put the good bugs back in her tummy. But talk to the vet i wouldn't want you to give her to much of the above and get her constipated . That might hurt after the surgery. GL and tell us know how you make out.
I would start with a stool sample to the vet. It isn't unusal for their little bodies to get upset after any surgery. If the everything comes back clean from the vet, you could use a little yogurt and pumkin to get her back in order. The Yogurt can be any flavor as long as it is not light or low fat. The pumkin can be a from a can, just make sure it is all natural with no spices or anything in it.
