Hi, my Bailie girl just turned six months last week and I had her spayed. My heart just ached when she came home but after a day or two she was back to her puppy loving self. I bought the tube for her neck to wear instead of the plastic thing where she couldn't even balance herself.
I notice today that her wound seems to be very red and sensitive to the touch (it's been 5 days since her surgery.) I called the vet and they said as long as there isn't any fever or ouzing she would be fine. Is that correct? I need advise and want to make sure that she gets proper attention. Can anyone please help me?
Keep an eye on it. If you feel there is somthing wrong, ask your vet to see you. It never hurts. It could be a problem, and since he doesn't see it, he doesn't know. My guess is that the wound is just healing. Redness can be normal, but I would ask my vet to take a look just to be on the safe side. I feel you can never be so safe when it comes to our furbabies
I've been through many spays in my lifetime with large breed dogs. The redness is normal especially around the time you are explaining. I always put a little neosporin on the incision around that time. If she is getting to it (licking it) that could also cause the redness and could cause infection. But like the vet said any oozing or fever is infection so if that becomes the case don't wait and get in to see your vet. Hope this helps.
