Hello , Im new to this site and i just wanted to tell you a little about myself and i had some questions for you all. I have 4 pets. Two dogs both females. and Two cats one male and one female, both of which are fixed by the way. I recently became interested in getting a new dog so that my younger dog would have someone to play with. Well my good friend recently had a litter of boxer puppies and said that she would give me a deal for one if i decided to get one. Well when i went to see them i saw a puppy that i became interested about. shes fancy colored. my question is are boxers a good dog to have? ive never had one and really to tell you the truth dont know that much about the breed. and i heard somewhere that they have a lot of health problems..is this true? and for all you boxer owners i would love if you could tell me about your dog and what you think about the breed. Also where i live i have a ton of land , and taking in a new pet is not a problem. Just which breed i would get is the problem.
Boxers are great dogs they are very affectionate and loving. They have high energy but are willing to watch a movie with you as long as they can curl up on you. They are clowns and give you a good laugh every day. That said, they also have many health problems cardiomyopathy, allergies, thyroid gland problems, cancers are very common.I dont regret my decision of being owned by two boxers and I cherish every day I spend with mine. There are many breed specific sites on boxers. They have great info!
I love boxers. they are big goof balls just like dobes.
BUT. . . . . . . Be very careful. Boxers have sooo many health issues. Make sure your friend did health testing and the parents are in great shape.
You usually get what you pay for and a deal on a dog usually doesn't end up that way.
I have know four boxers in the last five years that died of brain tumors. It was a horrible way for them to go not only for them but for their family watching them. One of them just got a new pup and didn't listen to a thing I said about looking for a good breeder. Got the pup way to young and it already looked sickly.
Good luck if you do get a pup!

I've had two boxers and my husband's had four. They are beautiful dogs and posess all the wonderful qualities you hear about. Goofy, serious, loving, great with children and always ready to play. They are puppies in big bodies forever. They need lots of exercise and can, as ZOMO said, do the couch potato thing at night with their heads in your lap. That said, they can have a host of medical problems. Then what purebred doesn't. Our female lived to be ten and a half (the average lifespan given), but she was gone too soon for us. She had a thyroid problem which was managed easily by one small pill daily and died of a cancerous tumour on her spine. Our two year old now has a bowel condition (IBD) that has taken us a year and a half to get under control. He is almost off all meds and has to eat a special diet but other then that he is active and happy and a little spoiled. Okay....a lot spoiled. We got him from a very reputable breeder who is well known and respected so all the health tests were done. Who knows. We've met many boxer owners who did none of the research we did and had healthy long lived dogs. They are such a noble breed. As others have recommended, you should get on boxer specific sites and read what you can. Anyone of us who have or love them will tell you that they are worth all the work. Sounds like you have great home for a fur family.
Yes , i have to say all my animals are very spoiled! There my babies, lol .These boxers have been tested on and nothing came up. My youngest dog which is a westie has tons of energy but also loves to snuggle with me on the couch and watch tv,haha. Also, These people really arent breeders..they just wanted to have a couple of litters because there dogs are so friendly and well trained and many of their friends want one of them! lol..which i personal like better then getting puppies from breeders sometimes because i had a chow that was from a big time chow chow breeder and they said all types of stuff about there dogs and puppies and well we paided about 600.00 dollars for her and she was the worst dog i ever had..also do boxers get along well with other dogs and animals(cats) because i have two of each, and i would hate to get a dog at would try to eat my kittys!! haha.
hey everyone today I went to my friends house to see the fancy puppy the I was interested in buying. Well when I went to see them and talk to my friend about putting down a deposit on her but she told me that another family is coming to look at her and are thinking about buying her:/ so I don't think that I will be getting her.
