okay so this morning i found this cute little puppy that look like a poodle mix?? anyway it was disoriented and walking in the road outside my shop which is located in a busy downtown main st area...so i brought her inside and she was shaking and very afraid...a few minutes later this lady came in and asked if I had taken the dog so i asked if she knew who's it was and she said it had followed her and her daughter for awhile...so she told me where it was that she first noticed it..about a mile away!! the dog has no collar and is very dirty...was hungry and thirsty!! i bring my dog to work with me often and had some food here which she ate up in a hurry!! so my question is do i go to this neighborhood and look for the dogs owner??? its a bad part of town by the way and it makes me mad that someone would have a dog and not have a collar on it or be grooming it...anyway..ive had several people in my hair salon already offer to take her home...i just dont want to give someone elses dog away....what should i do???
Legally you can't give somone elses dog away. If the real owner came up the person who you gave it to, You not being a shelter or rescue, they would have to give it back.
you have to try to find the owner, and keep it or give it to a shelter. Otherwise whoever would "adopt" it from you has the chance of the original owner trying to claim. At least those are the law here in Pa.
Personally I would put somthing in the paper, and notify the HS you found the dog and condition it was in, and go from there. They may be able to help you.
