Does anyone have any advise on puppy training my cockerpoo, she i 7 months old and still thinks it is ok to poop and pee in doors. I am at home most of the time and if i am not beside when she needs to go pee she doesn't let me know she needs to go out and promptly defecates or pees there and then. I have other dogs so she can learn from them but it isn't happening, i am at my wits end as she has ruined 1000.00 in rugs where they are constantly being cleaned. Can anyone help me, i don't want to give her up but i am very frustrated.
First you have to know your dog. She will have to go to the bathroom when she wakes up from a sleep, eats and gets excited.
Study her and she will give you a sign, even if she is not outright letting you know. (pacing, restlesness, whimper, something)
She should be sleeping in a crate with not much more room than she needs to stand up and turn around. (She will not want to go where she lays down)
When you take her out of the crate take her right outside and if she goes you praise her and let her have run of a small portion of the house where you don't have carpet. If she does not go don't prase her and put her back in the crate. Try again 10 or 15 minutes later.
She should soon learn if she goes outside she has freedom and if she doesn't she wont have it.
You should by now know just how long she can hold it. Take her outside before she gets to the end of the time she can hold herself and again if she goes outside praise her and let her have freedom, if not then no freedom.
She is now in the habit of just relieving herself any place she is so it will take a little more work to correct the problem than if the problem didn't exist.
Remember at 7 months her bladder is not fully developed and she may not have the ability to hold it more than say 4 to 6 hours.
Keep at it and she should get it. Remember No go no freedom or toys
